Lore Question: Half-Draenei

So, my mag’har is actually a half-draenei and recently, I’ve been wondering how to go about RP-ing that, exactly.

At first, I was thinking that he would try to hide it, mostly by wearing a helmet all the time that covers up the draenic ridges on his forehead and lying about his heritage (“Yup! Mag’har - means ‘uncorrupted’! That’s me alright! Definitely not a dirty half-breed, no sir! Both parents were as orcy as orcy gets!” <.< >.>)

But then I remembered Lantresor of the Blade. During the Mag’har recruitment scenario, he plays a fairly prominent role, implying that perhaps he’s one of Hellscream’s lieutenants or something. He even stays behind with Hellscream to give the Mag’har time to escape to our world.

Given that Lantresor is probably a folk hero at his point, it makes me wonder if there’s even still a stigma against half-breeds among the Mag’har. Perhaps half-breeds became more common during the brief peace that existed between orcs and draenei?

I dunno. Thoughts?

I’m not sure about Draenor Mag’har but according to the chronicles, in the MU, both Horde, (at least the Old Horde, not sure about the new one) and in Draenei society, half-draenei/orcs are reviled and abhorred.

But in the AU? Nobody knows what happened during the period between the Fall of Archimonde and Yrel’s crusade. They never really put a bunch of detail in there, but personally I’d imagine that it’d be a really uneasy peace considering that the Orcs waged war against the Draenei. Although that doesn’t discount that there might be instances of friendly Mag’har Orc/Draenei relations on the small scale.

I would think there’d still be some stigma though you could go the Garona Halforcen route and embrace the Orcish side, regardless of Draenei parenthood. And if anyone makes fun of you or scorns you, you bash them on the head.

You’ve got a 30 year blob of amorphous, ambiguous lore to invent with. You do you, boo.

Blizzard never said what happened during those 30 years, so go ahead and play with it.

And of course, the best way to fit into orcish society is to overcompensate. Chew tent poles, yell about honor at all hours of the night, punch things that can kill you and generally be the orciest orc who ever orced. Even a filthy half-breed could feasibly fit into a clan if they tried hard enough. Or they’d die. Six of one.

I had a character that was 1/4 Draenei-- his mom was like Lantressor and she was like 30 when WoD happened. So she had him already but he aged to old enough to fight when we went to visit.

Like a few others have mentioned, we have no idea what’s really happened in the 30 years since we left AU, so I would say go with what you think would be fun.

We do know that after we left, the draenei and orcs worked together to rebuild Draenor - we just don’t know what happened to sour that relationship, and how long ago. So to answer your question, I think it is certainly in the realm of possibility that a draenei/orc relationship would have formed.

However, given the current climate of the AU, I’m not sure the mag’har would still be particularly friendly toward a half-draenei, seeing as there are a few examples of the mag’har relishing in the idea of killing the draenei of the MU. It’s really up to you, though - there isn’t precedent for it, so just go with what’s fun to you.
