I see. Apparently the NPC (who is dead) was named after the first player character to obtain the weapon, as though he had it the entire time up until that point.

As I recall the weapon was created from his essence.

I believe you are correct, iirc it was also his prison or something like that. It’s been a while since I did that quest chain.
