What’s the difference between nightborne and withered ?

I thought all azharas people became naga?

Why are nightbone and nelves separate ?

Was azharas people nelves ?

Why do some live in surumar and some in the tree ?

Same race. Nightborne become withered if they go too long without taking in the energies of the nightwell. Think of it as a reverse-wretched situation.

The vast majority of them, the highborne, did. The elves that drowned before the bargain with N’zoth was struck simply remained as ghosts.

Because they had ten thousand years of divergent evolution whilst being exposed to different magical energies. Under similar conditions the high elves were also born.

Ten thousand years ago, yes.

Withered are nightborn who don’t get enough mana, we eventually cured that

Azsharas people are the high born, they were the upper crust of Elf society, and all of them are naga, or at least a major portion of them

Nightborn are elves who got their nightwell or whatever it’s called, night elves did not get that well

Withered and Nightborne are the same race, just as Blood Elves and Wretched are the same race they just failed to handle their addiction.

This was a group that bubbled themselves off from the Burning Legion after Azshara made their pact. They believed that the world would end and that they could save themselves by essentially becoming introverted shut ins. They were still there when the Burning Legion failed and Azshara ended up in the sea with her people.

Nightborne fed off of the Nightwell to the point that they changed physically:

Azshara’s people were Night Elves, as all Elves originally were. They were just Highborne; the elite and top of the social pyramid. They lived in different civilizations; the Nightborne remained in Suramar while Azshara’s people lived in Zin Ashari before it sank after the destruction of the Well of Eternity.

Wait how did we cure it?

Suramar storyline. We grow a tree thats infused with Arcane energys from the leylines of the planet with the help of druid magics. Eatting the fruit breaks the dependence on the Nightwell since the nightwell was turned off its a good thing we decided to grow that tree first!

Wait so there were 2 night elf cities? The tree and Surumar?
What made them branch out like that ?
We got nature lovers and nightborne

I’m not 100% on this but I believe it was something like a divide in belief or location

Such as one wanted to get their old lifestyle back and the others realized how they were wrong

Ah ok i see !

Suramar more closely resembles the original night elf civilization, before Azshara blew up the planet. They walled themselves off and basically just existed in upper-class stasis for ten thousand years or so.

The remaining night elves outside of this bubble turned away arcane magic, blaming the practice for said planet exploding. They exiled any surviving Highborne magic practitioners (who went off to become high/blood elves) and gave themselves over to druidism and living off of nature.

I’d highly recommend playing through the Suramar questline, it’s quite good.

There were a lot more than 2 Night Elven cities.

The Night Elves were a near-Global Empire at the height of their power, they even butted heads with the Amani Empire at its height and considered them and their lands unworthy of conquest.

Astranaar and the ruins surrounding it was a Night Elf City, Eldre’Thalas (Now known as Diremaul) was a Night Elf City in Feralas. There were villages and outposts in Stonetalon, Winterspring, the Azshara zone used to be a Night Elf City. Zin Azshari (the Capital I believe.) There was Nar’thalas Academy and its surrounding city that was ruled by Prince Farondis, Suramar, which held the Nightwell and was closest to the Temple of Elune. There was also the city of Vashj’ir that we saw the ruins of in Cata. I assume that was ruled by Lady Vashj before the sundering.

Those are the main ones that we know of, and there may be other Night Elven cities beneath the waves that were lost during the sundering.

Astranaar (Ashenvale), Stonetalon, and Eldre’thalas were all major settlements that survived the sundering relatively unharmed. Eldre’thalas only fell to ruin in the intervening years after the general collapse of the Night Elven government, and what I consider their twilight/diaspora as the cities were largely abandoned and their people began to wander. (No queen, no government. There was a major power vacuum that Tyrande refused to step in and fill as High Priestess of Elune.)

Wait what’s the difference between belfs and night elves then?
Cus the highborne nelfs became belfs ?
They both used arcane magic right,
The night well for the highborne?
I’m sorry if I’m getting this all mixed up, I just don’t know too much about their lore.

Grinding week after week of timegated suramar content :joy:

Something to do with a tree and mana, I got bored of it but if you do that zone youll get your answer

Those Highborne who did not wall themselves off in Suramar and survived the sundering that drowned Aszhara’s most loyal followers remained. They refused Malfurion and Tyrande’s decree to abandon Arcane magics, and thus Malfurion banished them from Kalimdor.

The Highborne left Kalimdor and traveled across the ocean, eventually coming to what we call the Eastern Kingdoms, they temporarily set up near Tirisfall, but felt a disturbance within the ground that they could not explain and that gave them the heeby-jeebee’s. They then continued seeking fertile lands and found Quel’danas, the Isle of the Sun. They created there the Sunwell, and fed from its energies. This changed them and they became the High Elves. They then encountered the Amani Empire and the Troll Wars began.

Elves in Warcraft are basically Pokemon. They just evolve if you stick them next to the right Well.

High elves were one group that went and made the Sunwell, which changed them to the form you know and love. Nightborne were another, that were locked in their bubble with the Nightwell which changed them into what we see now.

From Chronicle, here’s a map of the Kaldorei Empire under Azshara.

Wait so what do the night elves feed off of?

Nothing in particular. Nature, I guess? They were linked to the World Tree but I don’t know that it changed them (physically anyways). That’s why they look more or less the same as they did ten thousand years ago, and are the original group that all the other ones splintered off from.
