[Lore] Chronicles #4

The recent Chronicles #4 Volume which covers events from the start of Mists of Pandaria to the end of Shadowlands was recently released and while most of it is fine there are a couple of new changes in how events have played out that I’m not a big fan of.

Mists of Pandaria:

The new revision of events in Mists of Pandaria are that the events of Heart of Fear and Terrace of Endless Springs happens before the events of questing in Kun Lai and the Thunder King. After the events on the Isle of Thunder the Alliance/Horde return from the fresh battle of the Thunder King and it immediately goes into the events of the Vale being destroyed. The events of the first four bosses of SoO happen now before the events of the 5.3 Escalation patch with helping the Horde Rebellion in Durotar/The Barrens and Siege of Orgrimmar.

Battle for Azeroth:

The events of BfA have been changed in the order that they occur. As per the new Chronicles the entire alliance questing experience of Kul Tiras happens first before the Horde free Talanji from the Stockades. However this does not make sense, since the reason the Alliance sought the aid of the Kul Tirans is because the Horde freed Talanji and they needed something to counter the potential threat of a Zandalari fleet.

The Alliance are also the ones to do Uldir, which does not make sense either as the entirety of Horde questing in Zandalar built up to Uldir as a capstone raid that felt good. During the time of Uldir was current Alliance players were also confused why they were even in the raid since there was no quests leading the Alliance player to the raid at all. It makes more sense for the Horde since they see Taloc, Mythrax and Zul during their questing experience.

Feedback:

I don’t think events should be shifted out of order for seemingly no purpose as it can disrupt player sense of events. Even if one is not a roleplayer, every player who played through this content did it in a certain order, which was the order that it was given to players, and that order made sense given the context and time of the quests. Example of such a disruption being the Horde now free Ashvane from Tol Dagor (originally 8.1 content) before freeing Talanji from the Stockades then doing the Zandalar campaign.

The artwork in Chronicles is amazing, I just wish certain events made more sense in terms of timing. I would like it going forward that when there is additional story content that is external to the game that occurs during events that the player is directly in that it should add to what already has happened instead of changing what happened or in what chronological order.
