Looting Systems

I’m sure there are several posts similar to this whining and complaining. Yes, I’m adding.

I’ve run 6 M+ dungeons in a row, and have done 6 Castle Nathria bosses (normal+heroic) and not a single piece of loot has dropped for me. Zero.

Please remind me why I would keep running challenging content if there is virtually zero reward aside from one item I can choose on Tuesday? Why would I not just choose to mindlessly enter a BG, win or lose, I will still be able to guarantee purchased gear? Can completion of M+ and raid bosses not also reward some currency where you can then purchase something after enough times of not receiving something?

I think serious reconsideration to the whole rewards system based on different content needs to be done, especially in the form of ‘bad luck protection’.

There is a number of posts like this and it’s highlights one major problem with the game.

It’s just not fun to play.

It boggles my mind that there are dozens of these forum posts per day. Do that many people only play this game to get gear? I push M+ and raids because I enjoy the content. I can’t understand why people would pay monthly to play a game where they aren’t playing for the content, they’re just trying to get gear. And now that gear drops have been slightly reduced, they’re ready to cancel subscriptions. It’s crazy.

You liar, you get loot every time!
How dare that 35 anima token go unnoticed.
With out it you… well… hm…
<insert “It’s Something” meme here>

I’d take an augment rune over anima; at least they can be sold.

Did you finish the dungeons on time?

people like to get “rewards” for their time - whether it’s a game or not.

now, the real problem at hand is the level of RNG - some folks get gear at an ok rate, some people hit that bad luck streak and see nothing, when others are getting 2-3 pieces —>

that’s where the problem is and what is prompting people to complain.

You have a 1 in 5 chance if you don’t time. It’s double if you time the key.

Get better.

Because the next time is the time you’ll get loot. Don’t give up after 6 runs. Have some fortitude man.

Odd how you think it is good for the game for people to not get gear, and they should find your good luck to be motivational.

People actually need gear to play the game. The game has always been about getting better gear to become more powerful. The large number of posts claiming that other players shouldn’t get gear but should enjoy sitting around doing nothing meaningful because they don’t have that gear is, well, curious, to say the least. And keep paying to play and paying you for carries, right?

I love it when people attribute their good luck to skill, as though somehow being mathematically innumerate is a skill.

I too would enjoy more gear and you had me until I opened the OP’s armory. What ilvl do players think they should be when they only complete a handful of heroic bosses and a couple +6 keys a week?

I can’t even gear my alt running heroic dungeons, lmao… Sure, I could do the covenant campaign but I don’t want to do that crap. I would rather get gear by running dungeons, except they won’t drop.

I believe in the particular post you are replying to, they are pointing out that for a failed key you only get 1 piece of loot instead of 2 for a timed key…thus the suggestion to “Get Better”

Well I opened your armory. Or I tried to, but apparently it is blocked from view. Interesting how that works out to keep people from inspecting you, eh?

It’s not really about ilvl. It’s about the strings of bad luck and bad choices in their vault that they are finding demotivating. You may not see it as an issue for demoralized players to give up on the game. And really, it’s not a problem for those players, who have the option of leaving to find a new game and getting away from players who trash them because they don’t feel paying for an entertainment product that has been redesigned to feel like an unpaid second job that is in no way entertaining.

But considering the number of posts we’re reading, it’s going to be a big problem for blizzard. And if it is a problem that players are leaving (Hey, why are starting zones now empty? Looks like players no longer feel there’s any reason to start new characters…) it’s one that won’t be solved by implementing a new system that players must grind currency for in 9.2. Players who are leaving now because they’re pissed won’t be back.

If blizzard is working to remove all sense of progression from the game, what could their end goal be?

Players left when they felt that there was to much loot which made loot worthless…and now they are leaving because there isn’t enough loot which makes content worthless.

It’s must be a miracle that anyone plays this game at all.

Gear / progression is the grease for the skids in a game like this. Of course it’s important. It’s the treat, the reward for a job done. The decision to hold that back in some misguided effort to make what gear you do get feel more meaningful seems to have been tone-deaf.

This is true, but also an issue that goes back multiple expansions. Why so whiny about it now? The vault gives you a better shot at bonus loot (which is higher ilevel than what you earned), nothing more. It’s objectively better than BFA in the long run… despite a few bad streaks here and there.

In BfA the mythic and PvP chests were separate so you could get two items every week. Not so in SL.

And 204 iLvl…

Getting loot from somewhere.

Looks like 10 pieces of gear from M2-9.

There’s problems for sure but I don’t think it’s loot frequency. I’d tend more towards the content isn’t as fun to run and the iLvL of drops is on par or lower then what is needed for the content you’re currently running

Think they fall under the categorization of people who throw “time-gating” around. They want all the things and to get all the things as soon as possible so after the first month they can move in from “I didn’t get this” to “I got all the stuff and did all the things now I have nothing to do. Content Draught. Release content every month Blizz!!!”
