Looting player corpses?

If we kill players from the opposite faction and we were able to loot their corpse, say like some of their gold or some other items in their bag?

Would this be a cool concept?
WM only obviously

Pros?
Cons?

Nobody would carry anything.

It would be cool but many players wouldn’t be able to deal with hardmode like that.

I would mail all my gold and items to Alts when I felt like PvPing.

Maybe if it was instance based - like if there was a new BG that had 1000 gold and we had to kill each other for it and who ever has gold at the end keeps it. But not as a game wide thing.

This should have been in the game since vanilla

Bots would be seen as pinatas and encouraged.

It’s not a good concept simply because if the loot was “good” then it would be even more punishing to the player, driving more people to not play (Great now getting ganked costs me time AND money!), and if the loot is “bad” then what’s the point in the first place.

For a while (still?) we were able to loot little badges off of players.

Then rage quitting would be a real thing here, such as it is in Eve Online. But not just looting gold, but gear as well. Everything, the entire game would have to be rewritten from the ground up, unlikely Blizz would go to that extreme.

Never thought of that!

I don’t think this would be a good idea. Dying is already a punishment itself. What value does increasing that pain point give to the players?

just time to use more bank alts to hold my valuables.

Will that be the fine Kings we’d have to work out like giving some incentive to turn war mode on. Like permanent double XP?

At the cost of losing all your in your inventory if killed

It would be a mmo concept with 1995 all over it. Ultima Online you could take everything except the underwear.

Got to the point eventually they added ‘insurance’ that you could BUY with in game gold to protect your most valuable items.

While I DID enjoy the danger of losing everything at any moment. Creating a supply of Go-Bags for inevitable death was tedious.

Was glad when it was no longer a thing when I joined wow.

That would not play out well. What will happen is players will take ganking to a whole new level and form hunting groups to pillage and loot all players they see. Only this time it’s not for the lulz, they’ll keep at it until you’re robbed of everything you own. As if the ganking itself wasn’t enough punishment.

Didn’t Runescape used to have that mechanic? I think I remember it. But yeah that would be very much exploited and unfun for the victims. WPvP’s already dishonorable as it is.

In a game where things like WOW rogue exists, this won’t be interesting at all.

If you’re looking to encourage war mode, a mechanic that would be very punishing to players doesn’t seem like a good method to do so imo.

There’s already the methods people mentioned to get around this. What this does is punishes anyone who doesn’t use an alt to hold all of their items / money.

In ashran during wod you were able to loot enemy corpses and get quest items and artifact fragments that could be turned in for honor. A system like that would be okay.

Losing progression or valuable gear or gold would result in far fewer players doing warmode. It is a system from earlier games that people left to play wow to get away from things like that.

If you had an opt in on top of warmode I think it’d be cool.

One of wows better selling points in the old days was that they did away with harsh gameplay systems like that.

Having it as an optional thing is fine, but not as a standard.

The fact that you didn’t lose anything when dying to other players was an early selling point. Looting insignias was put in instead.

Deadass the reason I called this game a baby game for babies when my guild dragged me kicking and screaming to vanilla.
