Loot Suggestion: All Specs

There really should be an loot option for players to choose where instead of them choosing 1 particular spec, or their current spec, to all available specs for them as a class.

As a rogue, I swap between Outlaw and ASN pretty frequently. It’s incredibly annoying to micro-manage what loot spec I’m on depending on what boss I’m facing (IE: some bosses drop a weapon I need if I’m in Outlaw spec, others drop daggers I would still use in my OH as Outlaw, but if I’m not on Asn / Sub loot spec, it won’t have a chance of dropping.

Just let players choose between the current options, and also include an option of allowing loot for any spec for the said class.

This would be great for personal loot, but would fail miserably for group loot. There is already a lot of frustration from players losing a tank trinket to that balance druid, can you imagine how that would go if now that balance druid can take home items for all 4 specs off the same boss? Right now, the balance druid had to sacrifice the ability to roll need on caster DPS items in order to have a chance at that tank trinket.

I get that, but currently, all loot drops for everyone irregardless, I ran the raid yesterday and was passing on plate, mail, cloth, 2h weapons I would never use

Just think it’s silly that the system makes you have to constantly hop between specs when items within both are needed in your main spec either way?

But you’re only considering the impact on your ability to get items, not the other people. The warlock player can only ever roll on items good for warlock (and all their specs use the same items), while a druid could roll on every non-strength weapon, non-strength trinket, and even any non-strength role-locked items. The druid would have a much larger expected loot takeaway rate than the warlock. This situation is heavily mitigated by the fact that the druid has to pick one of the four rolls to be able to have priority. They can’t walk out of a single boss with a tanking and DPS item (unless it’s the same item) because they have to pick what’s more important for them in the moment.

but you’re assuming the Druid/s would do all of this, in which you are talking about, 2-3 Druids in a raid rolling against a potential item that may also be needed?

And if all of the above you mentioned was relevant to the Druid player in question, then they could/would choose the particular spec they need, which I am saying would still be an option on the table

and also to your point, you’re saying the Druid HAS to choose what’s more important for them in the moment…yet we’re not even guaranteed to see the item/s in question drop in the first place, and then you are further removing your chance from getting it if you are putting one spec’s loot table on “prio” to maybe see the item drop? Instead of opting in to have a chance on EITHER item to drop, because they are BOTH equally meaningful for your main spec

No I’m not, it only takes one to reduce the chance for everyone else to get the items they’re after. A prot warrior will never take an intellect staff, meaning all casters have a better chance with a warrior tank than with a bear tank that chooses to roll on an intellect staff. If the bear can also roll on the tank trinket, he’s getting twice the chance at loot compared to everyone else in this scenario.

The point is that when the druid has to choose one loot spec on a boss, they give up priority on any items that aren’t of that spec. This puts them on level terms as everyone else in the raid, even those that can only choose from one or two roles.

Which is the same for everyone else as well. Nobody is guaranteed that useful loot will drop for their loot spec, regardless whether their class can play one role or four.

Yes, what you’re asking makes perfect sense for the druid in my example, you don’t need to convince me how they benefit. It’s that the current system maintains as much fairness as can exist with some classes having a choice between multiple roles. What you’re proposing is worse for classes that have fewer roles they can play.

eh, it’s a pretty bad system all-around, and it only gets worse / will get worse with ilvl / achievement gate-keeping as this expansion moves along

guess this isn’t the right game for me anymore, because I’m not playing under these silly rules

I wish they would let us be a little bit more specific with what weapons and things drop.

I am getting so many staves on Elemental and I just got a shield that is stacked with armor and no secondaries. So many trash items, it sucks to get a drop that you will never use while the people you play with are getting usable items.
