Lately I’ve had to be a holy paladin to get into normal and heroic raid, I guess rets aren’t as popular this season. I’ve noticed some of my raid rolls show as “off spec”. Do I get lesser priority if I’m playing as holy but set my loot priority for ret and that item drops? I’m a little confused. Thanks!
The game does not care what spec you are, just what spec your loot spec is. The “off spec” means that the item is equipable/usable by your loot spec but the game does not consider the item to be meant for your loot spec. Such as rolling for a tank trinket as DPS or healing. These classifications are somewhat arbitrary when it comes to trinkets.
If you roll as an offspec then you do get lesser priority. Your roll is only considered if nobody rolls need as an intended spec. Off spec needs do get higher priority than greed and transmog rolls.

So if I’m looking for ret trinkets even if I’m prot or holy I should make sure my loot is specced to dps?
