Last night, I joined my guild on an UBRS run and it was my first dungeon healing with the guild. Long story short, it was very successful and we completed the run relatively fast with only 1 tank and 2 non-60’s. But that’s not the point…
Gen Drak finally dropped a piece of gear that had eluded me all through Vanilla. I had run that dungeon over and over again and never saw the darned piece drop for my Pally. Of course, as my guild progressed through Raids, less and less runs were done unless I was helping level or gear their guild mates alts. Ultimately, these Tier 0 pieces were removed from the game and I never completed my set. As you may have guessed, it was my Lightforge chest piece that dropped. I was more excited than I would like to admit and didn’t hesitate to hit that need button.
Now there are other pieces of gear that have eluded me over the years and I plan to grind for them in time. My question is are there pieces of gear or sets that anyone else is chasing this time around? Whether it’s for the first time or acquiring all over again.
I have never seen the Truestrike shoulders drop in my life… that I can remember (probably dropped in vanilla but I didn’t care because I was a mage). I mean… come ON! I finally got NS on my rogue but I’m still trying to get them on my warrior.
I rolled a priest strictly because I wanted benediction. There was a priest named meltyurface on my vanilla server that had it and I always wanted that glowing baller staff. Needless to say when I got it a couple months ago I was very stoked.
As someone who wasn’t interested in PvP or raiding beyond the occasional ZG 20-man stuff back in Vanilla, I ran all the dungeons to the point of burnout to equip all my various characters with their tier 0 sets, & later did the dungeon quest chain that upgraded them to tier 0.5 set across all my characters. The RNG can be a cruel mistress.
I remember when a Warrior guild-mate accidentally rolled need on the Paladin Plate Lightforge Helm after running dungeon several dozen times to get it to finally drop - and he won it. He felt so guilty about it that he apologized to me for months afterwards, lol. It then became a running joke between us all the way through TBC.

Between retail and classic I now have 983 UD Stratholme clears.
I have seen the epic sword once (during MoP) and the horse 0.
I have a spreadsheet. Do not question my truthfulness. I got both bindings and TF on my warlock soloing MC and farmed a Sulfuras for my buddy’s druid before I have seen that mount.
I was a priest in vanilla… and when it was my turn for the Eye of Divinity the hunter leaf dropped 7 weeks in a row.
I waited 2 months for the freakin’ staff… so rather than deal with that again I just rolled a mage. I do have a 48 Priest alt though.
Edit: Forgot to add… Golemagg never dropped T1 robe for any priest in the guild. We actually cleared BWL with all the priests in blue robes. Just horrible vanilla RNG back in those days… LOL
Dal Rends Sacred Charge. I already got much better from what little raiding I’ve done. Over 100 Rend kills and I’ve yet to see that main hand sword drop.
So since I have the ring and I’m fast at fishing out Jed, i still jump into pugs when I have time.
You reminded me of yet another thing I forgot to add to my earlier post… as said Golemagg never dropped T1 robe in many months of MC. Then first BWL kill (with all priests in blue robes) he drops T2 robe and Ashkandi… and PEB.
