According to the Mount Journal at least. You guessed it, the Otterworldy Ottuk from 500 Unique Mounts. (Possibly the 2 Old God Fish mounts as well, but they aren’t in the journal, so we can’t check those lol)
Unfortunately, according to this article, it’s intentional.
That said, it also says the broom mounts won’t be able to, but they’ve had skyriding almost all of beta, and I think a lot of people would be mad if they randomly took that ability away after hyping us up to have it lol.
If there ISN’T another mount that covers ground, water and air at max speeds with skyriding, then you have your answer (they don’t want to make a singular mount cover all bases).
If other mounts can “do it all” then an explanation is needed.
Otherwise, they’re trying to ensure, you don’t macro Neo (get it) for ‘everything’ which discourages collecting, purchasing, etc.
The people that have this mount are already avid collectors, as 500 mounts is no small feat (according to dataforazeroth, a whopping 4% of account have accomplished this feat).
If they added another achievement (600), I’m sure most of these folks would actively pursue it.
Having such a universal mount at 500, would probably incentivize some of the 96% to actually collect MORE.
That said, I’m actually OK with Otto not having Skyriding, just allow me to utilize its standard flying without having to go through a 5s cast to switch modes.
This just smells like old Blizzard drawing a line in the sand for no reason.
This was my positive takeaway too, it’s a decent little mount and travels at speed in water too, it’s actually a good one to keep away from dragonriding.
You answered my question perfectly. It doesn’t matter the % of people that have the mount, it matters what it does LONG TERM as we HATE being nerfed (remember the Water Strider debacle? but that was for the growth of the system long term… even if it sucked short term). And even for those 4% (I am one of those) who are clearly collecting/spending/etc the most mounts, they don’t want those people macro’ing JUST Neo. You’d be surprised to learn that the minority usually spends the majority. Revenue and all that…
The Aurelids have increased swim speed, as does Wondrous Wavewhisker.
However, the swim speed is disabled while set to skyriding for the Aurelids (Whisker is a shop mount and not available to test in beta), so there’s zero reason they couldn’t just disable the swim speed for the Ottuk in skyriding too.
Maybe its just because the mount is a relatively new achievement reward and they just havent got around to adjusting it yet. I only got it myself a couple of days ago, thanks to getting the final few from the Remix.
That it doesnt skyride isn’t a problem for me, but still it may be for those who enjoy that form of flight. Hopefully they will fix it at some stage.
PS: I note its gone up to 6%, obviously more people are getting it, like me, by buying some or all of those Remix mounts to top up the numbers.
