Kind of typed up a long opinion, but realized no one cares. BUT! Still wanted to say that being healed for over half my health in an instant cast is pretty nice. That’s before the SL conduit, too. Obviously doesn’t change the whole “die in a stun” thing. Still nice.
Yeah… seeing that big of a numbers increase only gives me more respect (or sympathy) for those that played one in BFA

I’ve just started fresh on a shaman so this is good news for me!

I am eager to test this dmg for PvP to see if it finally puts us in the same range as others…
But I am still skeptical that unless our mana regen is addressed, this is all meaningless in PvP.
Great news for PvP though.

Well thats good news! As much as i love the way the new shaman redesign plays, i was considering just rolling dk or spriest in sl because my enhance shaman just feels so much squishier than all my other characters, and has to work harder for similar damage, and less damage when im not getting procs. This is good news. Now all we need is shamanistic rage, or an etheral form redesign to work more like priest dispersion.
I agree but our defensives not being there is also still an issue for pvp. And still no way to spread Flame Shock for fire nova Is an issue.
To add on to what you said, I would still like to see passive damage mitigation tied to Lightning Shield, either baseline or bake it into Spirit Wolf talent.
Also Lava Lash needs a huge buff like what our wolves got. At least 120% damage buff.
Other than that, I think we are looking a lot better for PvP. Not sure exactly how viable it will be even after these buffs. One can only hope.
These are nice, but I was really hoping to see MSW take 20% off the mana cost of Healing Surge and Chain Heal per stack.

I still see the only reason to take Fire Nova being to have a ranged flag spin for rbg without the setup time required for hailstorm.
It’s a dead talent as long as Hailstorm exists.
Honestly…I’d be okay not having those defensives if Maelstrom Weapons let us battery with zero cost healing, or we had mana return on melee hits.
You can arguably play around the lack of defensives with proper kiting. Less so with zero mana once you are out.
Shaman being gimp during stuns seems in line with their vision of shaman. Thrall has the same weakness in HotS. Amazing sustain with uptime then punished in a stun due to no incoming resources (Frostwolf Resilience/Maelstrom Weapons).

I see a cleave nerf with hail storm being reduced so much. I still feel like lava lash needs to spread our fire dmg dot to nearby targets like it used to for fire nova to be viable. This would bring it back to the cleave master it was and would compete with unholy dk with a similar aoe dmg model. Without something similar it doesn’t bring a dmg signature unique to the class or style for a group to invite and push the envelope like other classes in a clear way. When a group invites a certain spec, you should be able to see and feel the difference in the way the group performs.
You bring a boomkin/spriest/destro you feel it with the across the room cleave. You bring an arms warrior (at least the way it used to play) or outlaw and you’d feel the 2 target cleave. When you bring ele or affliction lock you see and feel the funnel dmg for priority targets. What do you see and feel when you bring enhancement. I don’t see anything defining it without a flavor other than a bit of single target burst. I think lava lash spreading flame shock and flame shock ticking refreshing the cd on lava lash would help. Fire nova has too much of a cd and ramp up time to be viable without this mechanic. A totem that does aoe like back in the day could help as well.
Also… as enhance. Maybe more in depth or usable weapon “enhancements” would be cool.
Maybe the ability to enhance a party members weapons would bring something truly unique to the group??!! Let’s bring this class up to something desirable for a group leader!!
The damage is being kinda buffed, but moved around (looks like they are trying to promote lava lash for pve). But for pvp, windfury is still the go to, so not sure how forceful winds nerf will effect it. However, damage was never really the issue, its that we cant survive to get the damage out. We need a real defensive as a melee so we can not get trained, and be useless.

I always thought Primal Lava Actuators should have been swapped with Hot Hand for this reason in addition to a bit of Flame Shock management to eliminate the constant target switching in some form especially on a melee class. In this case, Enhancement would also generate solid priority damage through funneling.
I could have seen Hailstorm being a spread cleave and Fire Nova being a funneled cleave (maybe like Fae Transfusion without the multiple Flame Shock requirements where it instead applies a significant but fixed amount of damage spread over all targets through a DoT effect or Flame Shock).
as happy as i am with these changes, still missing mobility and defensive. Ontop of a mana pool that ooms super fast.

Agreed on that one but then why is its damage being buffed
Same reason flametongue is back for resto and ele…the illusion of doing something.

I know it’s not impressive. But, I was top 3 on the scoreboards for the 3 non-vehicle EBGs I did yesterday. It was really fun and I couldn’t help but think about these buffs coming while I was playing.
I still disagree with Blizzard that Hailstorm vs Fire Nova is a numbers thing like they seem to think it is. I also think that Ice Strike needs more than just damage, but concede that may change with Frost Witch legendary.
I also still want Shamanistic Rage replace Astral Shift for Enhancement only, be useable while stunned (not break it), and return mana.
BUT! Enhancement is just so fun at the moment. These buffs are going to be so nice even if I don’t believe they’ll fix some of the mechanical issues. Being healed for 56.5% of your HP in one instant cast is fun even if the exact same problems (die in a stun and OOM) are still there.
Edit: Oh! And the Ele Blast + MSW 30% change is also nice! I messed around with it briefly on the PTR and it’s chunky. I super enjoy using Ele Blast on Enhancement so any buff to it is welcomed.

I mean, I more than see the reason for why Hailstorm is getting nerfed, but that talent made aoe so much fun.
Really hoping lightning bolt maelstrom starts to really hit well. Feels really meh at the moment and not sure if a 30% buff is gonna be enough.
Little offtopic, but i never understood why enhance gets lighting bolt and CL as our MS spenders, when they are builders for the other two specs. Having lava blast (which both resto/ele have) would have made more sense, especially with flame shock. And earth quake would have been a very nice quality of life buff with the aoe + stun.
But as long as lightning bolt and CL do enough dmg its fine I guess. Just never understood why we got those as the finisher for enhance
