How hard is it to learn as someone who has never stepped foot in WoW PvP? Any advice? Where should I begin?
Probably not the best time to get into it but watching streams can help a lot in terms of how to play certain classes and what things to look out for when interrupting ect.
It takes a while to get good at PvP so just spam queueing games in either battlegrounds or arena will help you out greatly over time.
Super bursty right now. Not quit one shots, but your HP can drop so fast that it pretty much feels like it from time to time. And the game right now with how it is designed makes me feel like if you are not playing what they want you to play, how they want you to play it, you will not do so great.
Nah first step is to research which DPS go drop someone from 100-0 fastest, then learn to play that class before doing PVP.
I see I see, so I should be looking at the meta there and practice. Thanks for the replies!
Not so much just Meta, you still have to be good at the class/spec and enjoy it, but certainly don’t take the crap ones that are not good at PVP.
Yeah makes sense
I mean it depends on his goals, if all he wants is 1800 he can hit that on anything
I think it’s more important to pick something with simplicity to it, an example of what I mean - rogues can hit high rating yeah, but does that mean OP should grab a rogue and jump into PvP and hope for the best?
Probably not, arena rogue requires insane knowledge, timing, addons, etc. watching DR’s religiously, setting up windows, cross CCing, not to mention the already difficult DPS rotation and the paper squishiness if caught out
OP pick something easy to play/get into so you can focus on learning other aspects of PvP, so maybe like Ret
it’s kinda like learning how to drive, can you learn to drive a stick shift Shelby GT350 with 450 hp at 17 yrs old? Sure, its possible, but it sure as heck would be smoother if you started with an automatic Toyota Corolla
Be prepared to get raged at.
I got thick skin, they can rage all they want lol
The one season I had to care about PvP (for an Azerite Essence and PvP trinket being bis of all things), I got flamed harder than I ever have in 11 years playing League of Legends.
Yeh but it’s also the same argument of “Anyone can hit 2K M+ rating”, it doesn’t mean you should play feral druid or sub rogue when you can just choose to play ret or MM and get it done twice as fast and four times as easy.
If you want to do rated you also need to take into account which specs are better at it and which ones are more sought after alongside what you also enjoy playing because it will make your life far easier to get there.
Play a class that has immunities they can attack during like ret pala, warrior, rogue, monk and DK to a lesser degree.
Ret is doing well in PVP and so is holy if you like to heal. Don’t worry about meta specs or classes while starting, play what’s familiar.
Start with the bloody token weekly + WQs while waiting in a queue for epic BGs.
Epic BGs are a great way to begin. Very low pressure and lots of opportunities for skirmishes with a smaller number of people. They are also fantastic for learning to heal.
I would also keep warmode on in the weekly WPVP quest zone and fight everyone you see. just to get beat up and learn. Also, those crate drops are a decent source of conquest and bloody tokens.
As for talents etc, choose the simple builds with passives baked in first, and for now, avoid all the team utility stuff. It’s enough to worry about yourself at first.
Lastly, don’t hold onto your big CDs, just send it every fight.
