Looking to buy a new monitor

My knowledge is still a little limited when it comes to monitor specifications. My old one was great, I loved it, but now it’s dying. So I had my eyes on this one to replace it :

ttps://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-LC32G55TQWNXZA-Freesync-Monitor-Curvature/dp/B08FF3HDW5/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2K54JEIRH7MPH&dchild=1&keywords=pc+monitors+gaming&m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&qid=1622162791&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A7328481011%2Cp_6%3AA3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&rnid=12035754011&s=pc&sprefix=PC+monitor%2Caps%2C177&sr=1-5

Mostly because it’s the same resolution and size. But I think there are other specifications that I’m not sure will agree with my system, namely the hdr10 and wqhd technology. Is that HD? Can my gpu even handle HD? And is 144hz a normal refresh rate? I have a 1060 GTX (3Go), and a Ryzen 7.

Thank ye.

HD is 1920x1080, this monitor is 2560x1440 which is better than HD but less than 4K. WQHD is another term for this resolution.

HDR10 has to do with the range of colors the monitor can display, not the resolution.

Thanks for the information. This i s good news, all seems ready for go time.

Any of the LG Ultragear monitors is a solid choice and in my opinion they have one of the best looking screens on the market.

Just make sure it’s one of their IPS nano monitors. If you have not followed the market LG came out with some new technology out of nowhere a few years ago and became the gold standard in computer monitors.

Kind of like a AMD did with CPUs

Thank you Shiftydruid. I have revised my search with more narrow criterias.
The first monitor I linked has a some bad reviews, so I’m happy you came along.

I’m not sure buying a new monitor will fix the problem, but I don’t have another one around to test it out. So it’s going to be a 500$ experiment lol!

Now I have my eyes on this one…

ttps://www.amazon.ca/LG-UltraGear-34GP83A-B-Adaptive-Sync-Compatible/dp/B08DWD38VX/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=LG+Ultragear&qid=1622191777&s=electronics&sr=1-3

Two things are important here.

  1. I would not play at a resolution higher than 1080p on your graphics card.
  2. I would never buy a monitor bigger than 27" thats 1080p. 1080p will be quite noticeable and look pretty bad on the anything bigger than that

Since you are going to be locked at 1080p until graphics cards become more readily available I would highly recommend the following monitor

  • LG 27GN750-B

Save yourself some money and just get that. It has a beautiful IPS display and you will be very happy with it.

At 1080p your processor becomes pretty much the most crucial element you might not even need to buy a monitor at all if you are not on a 5000 series CPU I’d highly recommend getting one. Ryzen 5800x would be a solid choice if upgrading from a non 5000 series CPU

At 1080p CPU>Ram>Graphics card

Even 60 FPS can feel pretty smooth with incredibly low 1% Lows. If you were experiencing jitteriness and things like that you don’t necessarily need to increase your frame rate you just may need to replace your CPU not your monitor

I beg to differ, this is a big downgrade from what I have now. Maybe you underestimate the power of a normal PC? I’ve been playing with at 2560x1440 for two years now with no problems as far as I can tell. And on a 31 inch monitor. I don’t know, going back to a small screen is not something I look forward to.

Yeah I was stating it more as an opinion than a fact that was just my personal opinion

Amazon has this

Has good specs and reviews even though it’s a VA panel
A lil cheaper for it from Amazon warehouse deals when you click the other sellers option.

Thank you Canadiana. I’m not sure that format is wise though if I listen to Shiftydruid. And I like 2560x1440. I read that healing is a pain when you have to drag your mouse too far on your screen to hover over avatars. I think it would be fun for the immersion, but I’ll play it safe. My PC is not a monster PC.

So now I have eyes on this one.
ttps://www.amazon.ca/LG-UltraGear-32GN600-B-UltragearTM-FreeSync/dp/B08LZPXD4C/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=LG+Ultragear&qid=1622191691&s=electronics&sr=1-7

But this might all be for naught. I’m not even sure my old monitor is really dying. Maybe it can still be fixed, maybe the problem is with the PC itself even. And there’s the possibility that I will leave the store with a monitor if it can fix my problem right away and if they have interesting merchandise. But thank you!
