Looking for winning strategies for doing wild pet battles in Dragonisles

Hello All,

I’m wondering if anyone has some winning teams for doing wild pet battles in the Dragon Isles? Every times I’ve tried to do wild battles they beat the snot out of my teams.

Many thanks

Hi!

You are capturing, I assume?

I find it quite easy, and checking your roster, I see you have a great selection of pets to use already.

Personally, in Dragonflight, I favour

  • Grumpy, with Bark, Howl, Superbark
  • Emerald Proto-Whelp, with Emerald Bite, Emerald Presence, Emerald Dream
  • Anubisath Idol, with Crush, Sandstorm, Deflection

I often prefer Emperor Crab to the EPW, but therearea lot of wild Flyers in DF.

The main thing to do is to target the pet you want to capture with Grumpy’s Howl, then Superbark. That will reduce them to the point where you can capture them.

The other two pets are tanky, and simply there to finish off the other two pets.

With the EPW, keep Emerald Presence up, use Emerald Dream when your health drops below 50%, and Emerald Bite otherwise.

With the Idol, use Crush and Sandstorm to taste, and Deflection to avoid an incoming big hit.

There are many other approaches to capturing, many faster. Mine may be slow and boring, but usually very reliable.

Do you have the main essential pet addons? Rematch, Battle Pet Breed ID, and Pet Tracker? They are very helpful.

For the main achievement battles, and Powerlevelling battles, Xu-Fu’s is the place to go https://www.wow-petguide.com/

Nice to meet you. Welcome to our humble group. Hope you’ll stick around.

Forgive me, but I’m having a difficult time believing that you’re having problems with such a basic function as capturing pets. I’ve looked at your collection to see what you have that you can use, and you’re exactly 42 pets away from “What Can I Say? They Love me.”

I’ll go along with Grainne’s recommendations above, and I’ll also make a suggestion. If you’ve been through Shadowlands, you might want to join the Night Fae Coven and breeze through the rep until you can purchase Stemmins.

Like Terrible Turnip and Snobald Runt, Stemmins has an attack called “Weakening Blow,” which, like Superbark, cannot reduce an opponent’s health to below 1 point.

Weakening Blow has been given to battle pets that were most likely intended to be used to capture other pets. The problem is, in the past, these pets tend to suck at their job. They get killed too easily to capture a pet. Stemmins solves this problem by having a large health pool, plus self-healing, and can change the weather to Sunny Day for even better healing and a larger health pool.

While Grumpy with the Howl and Superbark ability is awesome, you might also think it’s worth your while to pick up a Stemmins. Especially if you’ve done all the other grinds and can fly in Shadowlands.

Word of caution: While I agree with the choice of Emerald Proto-Whelp, that pet is not to be used on the pet you want. Emerald Proto-Whelp is for cleaning up the remaining pets. With a Dragon’s special ability, and the powerful damage of Emerald Bite, you could easily kill the pet you’re trying to catch.

My capture team is nothing too unique, Anumisath Idol, Terrible Turnip and Snobald Runt–the latter two for the weakening blow move, comes in handy for ensuring you do not kill them. This team got me all the wild caught throughout all the Dragon Isle zones.

Altho now that Loncis mentioned Stemmins think I need a trip out to Ardenweald tonight

Well, that’s a little insulting ; however, I will fill you in:

I’ve been doing pet battles every day since they came out, and I’ve spent hundreds of hours doing battles all over Azeroth. However, today I was trying to do some wild pet battles in Azure Span to get in my quota of earned points for the Trading Post. The wild battles I was doing took out all 3 of my battle pets. I changed my team around, it happened again - slaughtered my pets again. So, I thought, I’ll ask my friends on the Pet Battles forum what they use.

My apologies if I wasted your time, it won’t happen again

Please don’t feel insulted. Looking at your armoury and achievements, you have followed an unusual path to get to such a collection, and I can see why Loncis is surprised.

But people do follow different paths.

You are well supplied to complete the various achievements and challenges, and to make use of the buffs and shortcuts that most of us use. It is really impressive that you have achieved so much without them.

I didn’t realise that you really were asking about just winning battles, without capture.

You could also try

Blackfuse Bombling with Zap, Bombing Run, Armageddon
Timeless Mechanical Dragonling with Flame Breath, Time Bomb, Armageddon
Twilight Clutch-Sister with Tail Sweep, Phase Shift, Twilight Meteorite

This team is just for quick destruction. Not ideal against Elementals, maybe, but generally effective.

I find that
Bombing Run, Armageddon
bring in TMD
Time Bomb, Armageddon
bring in TCS to finish off.

tends to finish most battles pretty quickly. I use it against the Icespines in Frostfire Ridge when I want to clock up a little XP on an alt.

My go-to team for wild pets is starting with pretty much anything, often a carry pet. Then Chrominius and Feline Familiar.

When your first pet’s health gets low, skip to the Chrominius, who uses mostly Arcane Explosion to repeatedly weaken all three of the wild pet team. Chromy uses Ancient Blessing as needed for health boost. If it kills first two opponents, Surge of Power usually offs the third.

Feline Familiar’s Stoneskin armor and Onyx Bite to hit hard, Devour when appropriate to heal.

I experimented across the width of Azure Span, 10 battles with a variety of wild pets. Started with a level 17 Thimblerig as carry pet. Never lost a battle, only had to bring in the Feline twice. Finished with the carry pet at level 25, helped that I was wearing Safari Hat.

My apologies for insulting you. I should not have taken for granted the knowledge that I have acquired over my years on this board. I had forgotten that not everyone frequents this board and consequently others might not be privy to the information we share here.

That said, you have a very large and impressive collection. I would venture to say your collection is larger than about 95% of us who frequent this group, and certainly much larger than mine.

If you know the zone has more flyers vs beast i would sub out the anub for void-anub which can easily handle any back row pets with spitfire.

Will of Remoria is an excellent 3rd pet of any combo due to its self healing.

The Weakening Blow pets are okay, but the rest of their move sets are awful when you are factoring in what you are trying to accomplish. They draw out the fight and it becomes a snoozefest. Capturing a pet and cleaning up should take 7-8 rounds. Which is why Grumpy is very strong. He can not only capture the target put but also solo most backline pets as well. Last i checked he was only 2-3k on the AH.

The addon Rematch has the capability to swap out your injured pets with the same pet (Has to be same Breed) that has the highest health. This means carrying duplicates is very beneficial. Especially when you are breed hunting and you need to forfeit and kill the spawn when it isn’t the breed you are looking for to cut down on the need to heal from the forfeit penalty.

My taming team is Tiny Blue Carp…Terrible Turnip and Ikky…used this team for years and never had a issue…
