Hey guys, I’m working on getting my trp3 profile going and could use some help from people who have more roleplay experience than I do for some questions about building stories for their characters. Is there anyone on horde that could help me in Orgrimmar or somewhere in game? We could visit the party boat in thousand needles so you don’t need to be seen in Orgrimmar associating with a warlock.
I almost hate to ask, but have we reached the point yet where there’s more of a stigma for being a warlock than there is for being a vulpera? Never even mind the combo.
(Like them myself, and have even had enjoyable RP with our foxy friends in carefully selected locations around SW, no easy feat.)
I suppose this would depend on how the warlock is portrayed.

it’s more I’m new to taking roleplay somewhat seriously and not sure how to write a profile for my character. I’m not sure what to put in it. I’ve seen some with really extensive trp profiles and some with very little in them.
Well to be honest, it’s going to be about how much you as a player want to put into it. Everyone is different which is why you see the variety of profiles. Do you want to give people the basics with some about glances and let them find out the rest during actual RP? Or, would you rather put it all out there so OOCly people understand your character and you can share as much as you want?
Either or is fine, it’s up to you to decide on which you prefer.
In general…
Put in things that would be obvious to the casual observer, and some (preferably subtle) hints to deeper secrets.
Add a few “you might know of me if” type things…ways that other characters might have something in common already.
There are some excruciatingly long profiles out there. Don’t add another. Give people a reason to want to interact…RP is not novel writing.

I would add to this generally most TRP’s are broken down into 3-4 sections; Appearance, About/Personality, History/Backstory, and Hooks/‘You might know me if’
These aren’t rules, they’re not official templates, but just what most folks go with if you want to get an idea.
Appearance is just that, what they look like.
- Describe what your character looks like in words, especially any details that might be missing from character select. Do they have an extra jewelry, tattoos, scars or marks? Any emblems or embellishments on clothes or armor? What is the material of their clothes and armor? Raggedy, cheap, and used or exquisite, fine pressed, and new? Chunk of armor missing they refuse to patch because it makes a good story? Anything special about the weapon? Is it typical, traditional, or standard for what they do? Little bit different? Some questions to ask.
About/Personality is just a brief overview of what the character is and how they act.
- Are they a kind individual? Cruel? Are they clearly apart of any organizations or groups? Where can they typically be found, what do they do on a day to day basis? Do they have a job, a home, a family? What would be their typical mood if someone approached them? Happy and bubbly? A grumbly old man? This is suppose to be mostly surface level as was said. Dont want to go too deep here as it can help ruin some fun in discovering it all in RP. Also RP profiles are not novels, they’re advertisements.
Backstory/history is just that, what brought them from A to B
- Again, keep this surface level. These are big, fairly well known, public-ish events that give reason as to why your character is the way they are. Where were they born? Did they go to school? What got them interested in what they do now? Are there any big RP stories, campaigns, or arcs that changed your character? Some folks skip this all together or offer the slimmest of backgrounds, so dont feel too pressured here.
Hooks/You Might Know me if"
- Again, like it says, things that may help others get to know how, or find reason, to react to your character. Especially for newer or shyer players, this is super great way to find a way to say hi. These are typically connected to your about or history in some way but in a more bulleted form. A quick boom boom boom here is how you can RP with me. “We both went to X place at Y time, you have ties with the mob, you have a certain accent.”
