So I am in need of a new Laptop not for myself, helping someone else out who has zero computer knowledge that is just sick of buying Bestbuy counter laptops that barely last 2-3 years on a good level and decline rapidly.
I know PC parts but not much about laptops.
What I do know is what I am looking for and if anyone got ideas they can link for me while I also do my own research to find the best fit for the price.
I don’t want to give a max price as I want to see what people come up with however I will say cheaper the price the better.
What is required,
- Nothing worse than a 2060 Nvidia Geforce level card. Can also be one of those new Intel GPUs as well if someone has experience with them.
- 10-12th Gen Intel Processor i7 or above
as for everything else surprise me not going to restrict too much, storage ain’t really an issue just SSD of course and RAM just gotta be solid.
Thank You all very much!
Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. It also has a MUX switch and a FULL 130w GPU. So you can disable the igpu and run off the 3060, 3070 or 3080 which ever version you get. They also have the best Warrenty on the market. They send a tech to your house to fix it which will be great for your friend.
Probably one of the best gaming laptops on the marlet. Same Quality as RoG and MSI laptops without the premium price.
Im sure you can find it on other sites but here is one with a RTX 3070 and 165hz QHD IPS
$1,569.99 RTX 3060 is 100$ cheaper. Same link

If durability is what you’re after, don’t expect anything below the $1k mark to deliver. Not to say that there aren’t durable laptops in that price range, but the majority of them won’t be because the profit margins on consumer PCs are super thin, so the lower you go the more manufacturers cut corners on chassis sturdiness, component quality, etc.
Case in point I’ve seen three-digit priced Ideapads owned by those in my social circle literally falling apart after a year or two of use, even those with decentish specs on paper.
Of course that doesn’t mean that all expensive laptops are reliable. $2k+ Razer laptops for instance are notorious for failing after a year or two.
Thank you both for responding,
Now I can start putting price range
$1000 or below.
from amazon:
Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" FHD Display, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti, Windows 11 Home, Phantom Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BDGD2TZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MCYBA705TVEJDHNEYB8K
Imma try and find one without AMD and instead Intel
Thank you both, gave me ideas on what I can search for.
My question is this- https://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?sdtid=15714988&EdpNo=1263881&sku=42631846&SRCCODE=3WCJ&utm_source=cj&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=3WWEBEML5848&_kla_id=43624d00fa32cd60ae9e6713662ce46def40cacf089b04d853aed10181c5faee&utm_content=4485850&utm_term=12637418&cjevent=54011d37c76f11ec831300390a1c0e10
The speccs seem great however the GPU Intel iris XE is what confuses me, are they any good? What does it compare to on the Nvidia side? I know it isn’t amazing just wondering because an uber made GPU isn’t super necessary I just know a decent one helps instead of having no GPU at all which most poor laptops are.
intel’s xe iris is intel’s integrated graphics. it is not as good as Nvidia’s graphics, but it uses less power == less heat. might be able to run wow at setting 5-6 comfortably
Thanks for that reply, gives me more of an idea of what I can go with.
