Let me start by saying I’m not looking to leave WOW. Now just a few things so that hopefully I can get some good tips on another game to play when I need a break from WOW.
My schedule forces me to be very casual, work, family and everything else gives me at most about 2 hours a day to game. Often this is interrupted so raiding is out and not many dungeons. Anyway, SL is getting a bit boring to me right now so I want a game I can bounce over to for a break and play for a few days, and then come back to WOW, and go back and forth. I do not want to play another MMORPG. I also don’t really care much for FPS.
I’m looking for some advice on a good strategy/tactical game. Maybe a world builder or a different type of puzzle game. Any good jumping games to solve puzzles that aren’t to twitch based? Some friends play Ark but I think that might be a bit too time consuming. I looked at XCOM 2 and Wasteland 3 so far. Any input on these? I’m open to suggestions.
I looked on Steam and was a bit blown away by how many choices there were to pick from.
Thanks!!!
I just picked up Valheim, it’s been pretty fun. Can play it solo but we rented a dedicated server several of us are using.
I’ll recommend Stellaris for you. It’s got a wonderful mod community and several expansions for when you want to move past the expansive storyline of the core game. There is tons of replay value and it’s honestly one of my favorite strategy games in years.
I’m playing these if not on WoW.
Stellaris
DJMax Respect V
Trials of Mana
I just started SWTOR again, I plan to just do the jedi class & planet campaigns
I also need to finish my Halo collection, maybe pick up FF 14 or PSO 2 next. Hopefully Baldurs Gate 3 is released when I’m all caught up or pick up Cyberpunk 2077 on sale.

I’ve been playing American McGee’s Alice Madness Returns. It’s a platformer with creepy vibes from 2011, but is a sequel to the original American McGee’s Alice from 2000.
With some edits to unlock framerate to 60, it’s quite smooth.
I know its an old game but I’ve been playing Sunset Overdrive lately, having beat it on the xbox I wanted to try it on the PC so I can get better frames since my hardware on my PC is worlds better than the xbox.
It’s a good single player type game where you dont have to worry about dbags from wow ruining your play or w/e . I don’t have another MMO to suggest but I see others talking about Final Fantasy XIV so if you want that it looks like it could be fun.
I saw one that is tactical-strategy that looked pretty interesting. It’s called “Othercide.”
Seems like a really cool art style.
Other options are Wasteland 3.
Wasteland 3? Disco Elysium? Divinity 2? Haven? Idk, tons of decent picks out there.
Hob is a short but fun non-twitchy platform; heavily atmospheric.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I ended up giving Valheim a try. I’ve never played one of these survival type games so I thought I would see why it was selling so fast. Sold over 2 mil copies in under 2 weeks which is a bit crazy for a small developer. It is an early access title so you will deal with changes getting added often but I’m not worried about that since WOW is still the main game I intend to play.
So far it is interesting. At first I thought I burned $20. The graphics looked really old school but the more you play they grow on you. Also helps when you start to figure out what you are doing.
I was trying to decide between Wasteland 3 and Stellaris, both of those looked really good. I’m hoping to try Baldur’s Gate 3 when it gets released and that will be the same play style as Wasteland and I did a number of 4X games years back. If this Valheim doesn’t work out I will probably try Stellaris. Thanks again

100+ hours in Valheim here, I haven’t logged in WoW since day one in Valheim haha
I’m basically just playing one day to do renown.
Valheim character graphic wise isn’t great, but the rest of it isn’t half bad. Actually surprised by some of the lighting I’ve seen. Night is night and day is day, unless you catch a full moon and then it’s almost day at night.
It needs a few things but once you get portals it really opens up. Same with ships.
