Longest time it's taken you to come up with a toon's name?

Three hours and counting for me. I’ve gone through gems, colors, gaelic names, celtic names, latin names, italian names, surnames as a given name and even a term connected to the length of a cat’s canine teeth.

This sounds exactly like my process for coming up with names for my characters!

I use a second, non-subbed account to hold and reserve names. When I’m ready to make a new character with the name I like I launch both wow windows, customize the character to my specifications, enter the name… on the second wow window, do the delete and back on primary WoW create character.

I have an almost identical list of names on both Horde and Alliance alts.

Three hours? Dang, I never went that crazy into a name.

It hasn’t taken me this long before; previous record was shy of two hours.

Yea that’s commitment.

I tried thinking of a character name + in general username I could use for weeks. not even kidding, weeks. I have tons of pages written down, as well as notes on my phone and computer. id wake up, hop on my computer, and just sit on the character creation screen of WoW typing out names. just random stuff. even while watching Asmongold on YouTube id be typing out names on my phone. makes me sound like a crazy person but am very picky about names. funny enough the name I ended up using didnt even come from any of this. it was one I had on a watchalong (movie) site that ive held onto for awhile. just never really thought to use it until about 4 days ago.
(and it’s not the name of this character)

Nah, you don’t sound crazy. If you’re on a large enough server, I could see someone ending up being that unlucky.

Depends how much you care about your toons name

I obviously care a bit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the reassurance that I shouldnt be in an insane asylum at this point. no but in all seriousness, that was a common problem. would find something that I thought sounded cool and it would be taken. but did eventually use that name that I had for awhile and surprisingly it wasn’t taken on twitter or twitch or in WoW. so now I have a unique and short name

Yeah, I’m trying to make a Dwarf Rogue who I’m writing in my head as being a member of the Explorer’s League and has a Harrison Jones/Lara Croft vibe.

Hell of a time so far securing a name that fits.

Most of my names are ones I thought up myself. Since that’s actually not fast (no really?), I keep a list of them that I can just look through when I need a new name. The process usually involved mashing sounds together until I got something I liked or that sounded good for the particular character I was building.

Before I had that, it could take me a day or two if I wasn’t in a rush. I’ve also been known to reroll characters just because I didn’t like their name or some other part of their customization. I did that recently with a character that already had over 20 hrs of play time on her.

I’ll have to get back to you on my answer. Clock is still running.

(Ok, ok, I’m not actually mid-alt-creation at the moment, but I’ve been musing for a patch or so about mechagnome and kul tiran names - I had one I was quite excited about but forgot to write it down and that part of my memory was apparently reformatted at some point)

Maybe … 5 or 10 mins?

good luck my friend it, it can be very difficult. one site I did experiment with is one called classictinker. it generates a random name so its one of those, but you can choose the length and the letter it starts with, and you can save it and than listen to an automated robot pronounce it. it’s a very good site more people should check out (not a paid advertisement lol)

i forgot how long it took but i think it was like 10 or 15 minutes for this character. as you can see, i gave up making a good name. orc hunters started with an axe back in wotlk so i went super generic.

though i actually take pride in the fact my character is the only one named axeperson that is actually played. legit if you look it up, there is one other axeperson and they are lvl 12.

one hour at most usually do it while on the creation screen, or come up with a name and roll a toon for it.

An hour or two maybe. It happens rarely because sometimes names come quick and I often just reuse or alter old ones. But there have been moments were I’m just suffering scouring the internet for inspiration and something that isn’t already taken.
