Even Ultima Online only came out in 1997, and many would consider that the oldest. WoW launched in 2004.

Throught most of WoW’s history ive been unsure if the game was even an MMO or an even an RPG for that matter

check out DND online not never winter but DND it was the second but EQ was the first dial up online game there was!!! so EQ is the first and longest

I think it’s EQ, as far as online MMO still running and producing content. I still play it lol

Well next expansion is gonna turn WoW into a shooter just to add more confusion.

I think I actually did try Furcadia once (a very long time ago) but it seemed more like a chat room but with video game graphics, sort of like what Gaia Online had (and maybe still has). Basically it seems more like it’s just a platform for RP—furry RP specifically. I wasn’t really into it because I don’t like to participate in RP

Even EVE online is older than WoW. that game was ahead of its time.

There might be some caveat when it comes to other games and what it means to be “continuously running”

The Realm Online mentions that it also launched in December of 1996, around the same time as Furcadia. Furcadia is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the longest running social MMO.

Compuserve had a text based space MMO in the early 80’s. Got in a lot of trouble ringing up per minute charges on that.
Was kind of a very early text based Eve. Conquer planets, develop them into Hullers ( planets that could make space ships ) make space ships, go battle other players and take their planets.
