Long Term Health of Classic

Lets face it, most people gave up on Vanilla when TBC was announced hence Naxx having a small number of clears.

With the loss of layers (massive drop in players) it appears people are giving up on a classic again.

Once naxx is cleared how vibrant do you think classic servers will be?

Its already tough to pug dungeons when it offers bis. Either not enough groups or the groups have reserves.

I am growing more concerned about the health of classic by the day.

I don’t think your doubts will be validated any time soon, Your individual inability to find loot groups has nothing to do with the overall health of the game or servers.

People love this game and will be playing it for years, no matter what devs decide to do.

I rarely go troll post, move along…

I think this is my first time. Not because of the content, but the thinkly and amateurishly disguised agenda.

It is clear you love putting down Classic, Op, l I don’t know why exactly (don’t pretend it’s because of purely what you have observed cos it will only make you look even stupider) you do that, but please give it a rest,

Classic and anything after will succeed independently of your agenda.

Once the population has settled down to the folks who’ll be dedicating time to playing we’ll see a thriving community in it for the long haul.

This exactly.

Even Phantasy Star Online still has an active and thriving community. All you need is a good game, servers that stay up, and a lack of significant tampering with the formula.

Ummm . . . did they have a choice?

That, and the population is now spread out.

Depends on the display settings of your video card.

Ah, so the concern isn’t about classic, it’s about whether you can get the loot you so richly deserve.

It was a pretty large mistake not to launch the BGs day one, I think that’s effecting the drop off more than anything. I know it was always their plan not to, but, in retrospect, that plan was incorrect.

I don’t think it’s going to ever die. People have been playing on Pservers for 10+ years. If you thought that Classic was going to retain the hype and amount of players that logged on when it first came out then you are delusional.

But, I wouldn’t worry about the health of the game because people will always play it as long as the servers are up, probably just not millions upon millions of people. As long as people are on I’m going to play the game, and I’m sure many feel the same.

Perhaps one of your kooky ideas will save it.

Anyone with a clue has expected this since the beginning. We even had a name for these people “tourists”. It’s the entire reason layering was implemented in the first place, a lot of people were going to check out Classic and a lot of those people would move on.

It’s ok, the sky is not falling. People are not “giving up” on Classic. The population is still very healthy and the players that are left are the ones that have been begging for classic servers for years and years.

We aren’t going anywhere.

 you don’t know anything do you? Removing layers was always the plan. There was no “loss”. Why do you think they’ve been pushing character transfers so much? Because people aren’t leaving!

This guy constantly posts absurd things daily. As if he were a BfA Retail exec trying to sabotage the whole thing. Dude is a troll.

When TBC was announced some people may have thought there’s no point to continue trying naxx because they would get better gear in TBC

This would be a different scenario. Blizz is not going to release TBC on the vanilla classic servers. They will most likely make a separate TBC server that people can copy their char to (or just a completely separate server). This will ensure people can choose to continue playing their vanilla char if they want without the expansion

At least if Blizz listened to community feedback that’s what they would be doing

Once phase 3 brings Battle Grounds youll see a surge of players return. The PVE end game experience is incredibly short compared to PVP.

You know what? That was the plan from the very start.

Wooosh. The idea behind layering and realm health has gone waaaay over your head.

Layering has been in Classic longer than expected.

There’s plenty of people like myself that play less, enough to remove layers, but we’re still playing

Personally, I may quit Classic when my 6 month sub is over, as while Classic is fun, and better for some mechanics then some later expansions… it is still an unfinished POS in so many other places. Classic was good enough for me to resub after being away for years, but the lack of tanking classes, ability to form dungeon groups in a respectable amount of time, boring unpolished qst zones, and so on are bringing back vivid memories of what I didn’t like about Vanilla back in the day. Will likely come back for BC as that was my main jam back in the day and what got me into playing hardcore back then.

Blizz (and some players) seem to want to milk the phases slowly, possibly out for another 2+yrs to get Blizz as much money as they can. So it is getting boring real fast, and I don’t think paying them monthly to still be bored without any pvp rewards or BG’s is gonna happen. Not sure how many others feel the same, but unless Blizz speeds things up, I will be gone again.

I wish they would announce BC servers when Phase 3 goes live, and have the BC servers come out by the last phase of Classic. That atm seems the only way they will keep my subscription active continuously.

Just my .02, as I know there are many people that are happy with Classic, and will stay in Classic regardless of Xpac servers.

People didn’t give up on vanilla, they were forced to move on when all the servers went into TBC. What choice did they have? As for naxx clears, it was out so close to the BC launch nobody had the chance to try it. My guild managed to down some of the bosses but nowhere near Kel.

Sure numbers in classic dropped a bit but that was expected. Lots of people came to try what they enjoyed 15 years ago. Doesn’t take long to realize how slowly 60 will take most players. People don’t play as much as they did back in the day, but that doesn’t mean the arent playing. I’m working on an alt now. My main is 49, he needs some rested xp before I want to continue.

Life after naxx? Well I just want pvp and I know that goes for alot of people. Most people I know from vanilla aren’t interested in raiding again, but they do want to pvp. 60 raiding isn’t the most in depth for today’s standards.

We won’t know what the population really is until 1 month after bgs are released.

That doesn’t really have anything to do with Classic’s current situation. New content came out, so people aren’t going to deliberately NOT do the new content… if you already had a 60, why would you keep doing Vanilla content?

A decline in numbers is to be expected in a unique game like this. It’s not a remaster, it’s not a new game, it’s a recreation of an old game. People are bound to have differing expectations and leave when they realize this isn’t the game they thought it was. Using shards instead of making too many servers was in place to combat this is exact thing. To make sure they don’t have too many servers after the initial bubble bursts, so the servers don’t feel empty afterwords.

If you’re expecting continually released content like TBC to be what keeps this game alive then you may as well just give up now.

I’m not going anywhere. Taking my time and enjoying the journey with my main and 4 alts. I hadn’t played WoW for nearly 2 years and been subbed since classic came out, fell in love with it all over again.
Recently went and checked out retail to see what it was that made me quit, because RL in between makes you forget things
I immediately realised it was character creation and the limitation of character development and lack of depth and choice. Creating a character the way I WANT to experience the content. And retail just doesn’t deliver;
Transmogs…meh
3 button battles…meh
face rolling encounters … meh
AND level scaling…Fricking HATE it, reason I also left ESO

… nah, I’ll stay thanks and enjoy what gaming is for me that nearly all recent games seem to have abandoned (except maybe Path of Exiles)

Vanilla succeeded due to the levelling process and the outdoor world.

People are playing classic focused on instances and raiding, which is arguably the inferior part of classic.

Some people will stay for PvP, and maybe stay forever due to PvP, but I think PvE will shrink to a very niche audience.

The game needs to better community to make classic work, but most are toxic.
