Long spells that only make sense to cast when there is a clearcast proc suck

Spells like Pyroblast and Demonbolt have literally zero reason to be hard casted. Demonbolt does nearly identical damage to shadowbolt, so that button is relegated to “only cast when Demonic Core procs”. I enjoy insta casting it but I wish it actually made sense to hard cast it from time to time. Same with pyroblast. Would give more variety to the rotations.

Do you run Sun King’s Blessing on your Fire Mage?

If not, I would recommend it to you; I think you would enjoy this talent!

Long cast spells are a vestigial element left over from classic, where fire mages would use Pyroblast to pull things. WotLK onward they worked around that limitation by giving them instant procs. They might as well just make them only usable on proc like Arcane Missiles.

Take the spell out of the spellbook and make it a proc related to another commonly used ability, e.g., rather than having insta-cast Pyroblast, just have fireball turn into an instant Pyroblast when the effect procs. One less key to use.

Do not take it out of the spellbook.

I don’t mind the rest of the idea, but removing flavor to reduce buttons is bad. I like hard casting Pyroblast as a fun RP “I’m a powerful mage and you pissed me off” spell.

Let the rest of us keep the spell if we want it.

I’m not mad about hard casting still, I’m kinda disappointed that they went away from instant cast cooldowns.

Nature’s Swiftness has been a 2 minute 1 nature spell thing for like 20 years now. Also what happened to Presence of Mind? It’s weird that mages can’t just CDR a Presence of Mind and just insta cast intermittently on demand. Probably not even worth PoMing a spell anymore since they hit for nothing now compared to back in the day.

Could suggest FF14s take on Red Mage where every hard casted spell makes your next hard cast become instant. So, you cast your 2.5 sec spell, then you have instant access to your 5 sec spell.

Might feel better than a proc.

I agree. I hate what they did to disc priest where they removed half the buttons.

Not to mention the fact that pyroblast is actually correct to hard cast for modern fire mage due to a talent interacting with it when not instant cast.
