Long IC/OOC Wall of Text Concerning changes to the WORLD part of World of Warcraft

Something needs to be done about all the old zones being empty and unused. We need another Cataclysm-type DLC that revamps the entire world of Warcraft.

With Classic servers and old content, there is really no reason not to completely redo the old zones and give them modernized, up-to-date stories and quests.

Many zones have lore updates from outside the game, such as books and short stories, that are not represented in the game itself, which is upsetting.

I have also talked to, and heard from, people commenting on how some old zones don’t accurately reflect their representation in lore. For example, Goldshire is little more than an inn and a blacksmith, whereas in the expanded lore, it is portrayed as a large, well-developed village. Arguably, this might improve with player housing being implemented soon.

Some zones could benefit from new projects. One such zone is Duskwood Marsh. Theramore lies completely destroyed and abandoned. Onyxia has long since been slain, and her whelps and dragonkin should no longer be present. Only a handful of small Horde encampments and a few hermits remain.

Instead of relocating the Mag’har to Arathi, which is a location across the world from Orgrimmar and its support, why couldn’t the Mag’har have moved into the Marsh?

We could imagine the Marshlands transformed into a vast expanse of fields and cattle lands. Let the Mag’har forge a new home for themselves just as the Orcs did in Durotar.

First, they could establish a new Orc encampment, which could later be expanded into a significant settlement. A new trade route could be carved through the northern mountains, bypassing the long-abandoned human keep, connecting the Marshlands with Ratchet, The Crossroads, and Orgrimmar.

The materials removed from these mountains could be used to fill in the coastline and create a barrier against the tides. We could reinforce this new seawall with iron and steel storm barriers and pumps to drain the water from the marsh, revealing the rich, fertile soil underneath.

Hunting parties could be tasked with eliminating various threats, such as crocodiles, raptors, and other dangers, providing food for the many workers and peons cutting down swamp trees for lumber. This lumber could be used to construct new farmhouses and storage barns for the numerous new farms and to build fences for the cattle.

An entire old, unused zone could be rejuvenated and filled with multiple phases of construction, leading to a new home for the Mag’har and other Horde races.

While I was not here for Dragonflight and don’t know the full story of the Night Elves getting a new magic tree (hopefully this one isn’t as flammable), What exactly is the status of the Night Elf territory the Horde captured under Warchief Sylvanus?
We took mostly all of Ashenvale for the Horde, now that we have it, why aren’t their dozens of lumber emcampments sawing down all those trees we needed so bad that for over 20 years we have been playing a game of capture the flag for.

Also, with the changes with this very patch for the Goblins, Seeing Bilgewater Harbor get a makeover and become something more interesting would have been nice.

If this sounds like a thread of a player whining about how little new content were getting every DLC now it kind of is. I’m very much over the 1 New Island with 4-5 zones with 1-2 raids and 4-5 dungeons with maybe 1-2 seasons that add 1 new raid. For $60-90 not including the 6-12 months of $15/m I have to pay for said content.

We know we’re at the very least getting a Silvermoon revamp in Midnight, and there’s been little things datamined across the last few expansions that are uprezed versions of old buildings and assets. Are they for housing? Possibly. Are they for a world revamp? Also possibly.

Thats good to know,
Also, STORMWINDGUARDLOSERSAYSWHAT? :military_helmet:

With 20 years of content under the game’s belt, what they honestly ought to do is make End Game content regardless of expansion a valid form of progression.

Like if I do dailies in Outland, it should reward gear equivalent to a World Quest drop in Undermine.

Yes you run the risk of spacing out the existing player base even more, but by that same token it gives the players an option of what to do when they’ve exhausted the current content without conceding they’ll “fall behind” by doing something else. If anything I feel like it would drive engagement upwards as people who joined after that content was relevant now have incentive beyond curiosity and some achievements to revisit it.

We definitely need a revamp. But there just needs to be a revamp in how they look at world content in general. Delves have been a good step but there needs to be more. I’d like to see a lot more variation in world quests too.

To be clear. The Horde does not control Ashenvale or Darkshore. Alliance canonically won both warfronts at the end of BFA. So any cutting down of trees would likely be seen as a violation of the armistace.

I would like to at least see a bridge built over the big caping chasm in Barrens because by now it makes sense that they would have adjusted to the shattered world. It would also give a chance to have a new horde settlement mid barrens to help crossroads. We can call it Bridgeroad, half in southern barrens and half in northern barrens.

I more or less just want to see the destruction wrought by Deathwing incorporated into the world landscape and how towns form around those landmarks naturally. I think it would be neat.

(Unrelated but it’s Dustwallow Marsh. Duskwood does not have a marsh, nor does it have Theramore)

It feels like WoW has kinda written itself into a corner with the whole cosmic threat thing. It means we can never really lose because otherwise…y’know. World go poof. I’d love to see more grounded conflicts with wins, losses, and back and forth stuff.

We have a whole world of warcraft but it’s really more like Most Recent 2-3 Zones of Warcraft. Blizzard has shown a weird trend of being very inefficient with content, too - mostly one and done. I’m pleased to see they’re reworking some old raids and whatnot every so often to fill content gaps. Games like GW2, ESO, etc have content that’s still at least somewhat useful even though it was the stuff there from launch.

Stop paying for a subscription and pay with gold, if you’re not already doing so.

If they do decide to redo old zones then I can’t wait for shards on shards and the troubles that will cause.

Honestly, just be like Blizzard and forget the old world and embrace Elfcraft.

The time between Vanilla and Cataclysm is shorter both in- and out-of-game than Cata to TWW. Christie Golden’s travel books with Shaw and Flynn’s notes scrawled in the margins are the closest we’ve gotten to a world update but if you don’t pay attention to non-game media, all you have are vague mentions in quest text.

Since Blizzard has hinted (potential end of TWW/beginning of Midnight spoilers) that at some point in the World Soul Saga, we lose and need to gain ground that was lost, I think a world revamp expansion is coming sooner than later.

That said, I agree that Blizz’s current phasing tech still leaves much to be desired. I hope it gets major updates as well as adds more options for player choice to hop phases but… we’ve wished that since forever and only received the Frankenmoster phasing we have now.

It seems each phase only holds on average 30 to 40 players max which is absolutely bonkers. Only reason to do so is accommodate more players with very low spec PCs. A good option may be to offer dedicated shard service. It is exactly how it sounds; a player or guild can purchase a dedicated shard, an exact copy of Azeroth for themselves. There could be a settings option for upscaling, player rule sets etc… It would function very much like an Ark Survival cluster. I would buy my own shard in a heartbeat!!
