Where did you get the information about long downtime?
The launcher has a 7AM-3PM maintenance notice for Tuesday, August 13th.
As for why, one can only guess.

It’s predownloading the patch data for next week. Basically the “finalized” class changes and all the data that wasn’t included in the pre-patch (like the music, voiceovers, etc.)

I didn’t buy TWW but I guess that doesn’t matter?
Nope same game client. It’s still there you just can’t access TWW specific content.
And at OP it’s to bring live up to the release build that is currently on beta

The class balance changes are coming and hopefully they are fixing Character Restore, so I can finally restore the character I deleted on accident when the UI bugged.
I’d assume it’s the audio those tend to be larger files.

Does anyone know if the Warband Trading system for honor will be up and running with this patch on Tuesday?
Going to the store to pick up new hamsters.
This is basically implementing the big patch with all the changes. The patch was almost 2gb. Expect this and next week’s maintenance to be long due to the expansion launching next Thursday
