LoneWolf in Shadowlands question?

What is lonewolf like in shadowlands? Do you still need to call out your Pet mid fight if you need pet abilities\need to keep something in combat or did they talent it off?

It’s identical to the BfA implementation. Survival of the Fittest with no pet, calling a pet swaps it to your Command Pet ability and cancels the buff, dismissing the pet cause Lone Wolf to slowly stack back up to 10% over time.

Thank God that didn’t change - yet.

Ok thanks, always hated calling out and dismissing my pet in pvp.

You shouldn’t be doing that anyway. You have to stop and cast Dismiss Pet, then wait for Lone Wolf to ramp back up again. In the meantime, you are gimping your damage, survivability, and utility.

Start without the pet if you want for a stronger opener, but once you bring out the pet for Master’s Call or whatever, just keep it out.

light bulb comes on

Now I understand why Dismiss Pet has such a long cast time. I’m afraid if people keep doing stuff like this, they will eventually move it to the talent tree again, and I would be heartbroken.

No, normally i just have lone wolf out unless a class like a mage or rogue pops on me when i need Pet Sac\freedom, or just having a pet to keep a rogue\mage in combat during CC to avoid reset.

Or the alternative just always having a pet out because having a pet out is always better than lonewolf in pvp due to Sac\freedom and keeping people in combat.

Dismiss Pet’s cast time has nothing to do with Lone Wolf. Blizzard wants there to be an opportunity cost to swapping your pets around to fit different niche situations, so you either don’t do it, or you do it super rarely and only where justified (like using a Ferocity pet on the pull for Primal Rage, then swapping to a Spirit Beast or something after Primal Rage falls off, and keeping that out for the rest of the fight).

Lone Wolf disincentivizes combat pet usage via the ramp up mechanic, the Dismiss Pet cast is just icing on the cake.
