Lonely winter or no pve?

I am leveling a new frost mage when I get to the level where I do get water element do I use it or do I go lonely winter pve mostly with little pve … solo play mostly in game .

Thank You

if you’re just playing solo stuff like world quests and what not, use the pet for the extra nova

Yeah, get the pet, it’s extra passive damage that you don’t have to worry about keeping up with

ok thank you for the replies

I think Lonely Winter beats the pet in maybe 1 build, the rest all use the pet.

Also if you run comet storm, the pet is mandatory for dungeons.

If you cast comet storm, and pet nova just before it hits, you can shatter the comets for massive aoe burst. It’s great

The pet can also help in mythic+ with certain mechanics or affixes. Necrotic for example, is a frost mages best friend. Tanks will love the constant slows and extra root you can provide to help them kite

I like lonely winter for bosses sometimes, as the nova can’t affect them anyway. On the other hand, the pet is passive damage that you don’t have o worry about, and isn’t affected by movement

Overall, I’d argue the pet is better, both for damage and utility. However, being petless is something I miss :frowning:

I can’t stand having a pet…

It’s the one thing I hate about frost that keeps me from playing it as main spec. I hate that damned elemental.

That being said, move his “freeze” to your action bar and track it’s CD with an addon. As much as I hate the elemental, that ability is great in questing and dungeons.

For solo stuff, the pet freeze is invaluable. I wish I could have the freeze without the pet though, because I dont really like having pets, but I keep it for the freeze.
