I just realize that Lone Wolf is back to 30% !
Is it worth it over Heart of the lion as MM?

Probably not. Possibly as a pve melee hunter while another hunter runs lion. Lion is just too useful/needed horde side at least
no you get 20% stats from lions in a raid. Thats insane and eons better than any other option
Even if Lone Wolf was a 50% damage increase, it would still be a dps loss. And it’s just plain silly that it shares a slot with Master Marksman.
Depends on your spec, pet is only like 20% dps I think at 60 if your full marks and Surv with no points in the BM tree. Pet utility is also overly exaggerated for pve as there is no spell push-back and positioning isn’t super hard, pvp sure the push-back potential on spells and constant dps while you reposition and such is a welcome addition that lone wolf doesn’t overcome.
I have tested it and I think at our current level because pets are scaling so well that it doesn’t overcome the pet dps on single targets. This might change for 40 and instances where clearing trash with trap launcher and explosive shot might be more powerful then the pet. 30% damage to traps with clever traps talents for another 30% plus explosive shot sounds really powerful for speed clearing 5 mans at least.
The Melee hunter sim with lone wolf is much stronger than lions. It’s hard to tell with marksman and BM since it only does melee attack sims. However, I assume lone wolf will be better than lions at level 40. We still only know two runes that we are guaranteed to get, and they already said that most of the datamined stuff was very early concepts, and have most likely been changed in some way shape or form or replaced. But I can tell you I had a marksman hunter in our raid using lone wolf when it was 15% damage, and there were a handful of fights that their damage was right below me as BM hunter, and some fights where they were higher like the turtle. With lone wolf and the next talents Marksman hunters are gonna hit crazy numbers with crits, and we also got to remember beast mastery rune got nerfed. Most people were going Marksman with Pet Runes, that’ll probably change, now marksman will probably out perform Marksman talents with pet runes. Pet’s damage is probably only gonna keep up with other specs if you are full BM tree(However we wont hold a candle too melee, melee sims are ridiculous having an average DPS of like 900 if both the melee spec and dual wield spec are released.) I think every other build for hunter will be pretty close, enough to the point where you can pick wether you like Full Pet, Pet and Ranged, Ranged Only or Melee only(I don’t think pet will be worth it, since pets don’t scale with strength, and alot of melee hunters BiS is gonna have alot of strength and a little agility) You probably could still go melee and pet and it’d be more than BM or Marksman.
Lone wolf will probably be the go to for Melee Hunter and Marksman. The higher level we get the less Lions is gonna be worth it, due to DR and plus the gear we got available to us.
Right now the BiS is like 176 Agility, next phase BiS is 235. Without heart of lion.
So that’s like 120 Ranged Attack Power or close to it. 30% damage on everything will probably better than 120 Ranged Attack power on autoshots.
No. 20% agility, stamina, intellect, strength, and spirit is significantly better than 30% damage. Also, your pet is like 30-40% of your damage, so you are trading 30% for 30%, but you could be just gaining flat +20% from aspect.
Another nothingburger hunter nerf disguised as a buff.
So according to Melee Pet Sims(Which will be a little off but it still sims your pets damage comparatively with your Melee Damage)
With BiS ranged gear, No Melee runes/Talents and all pet runes(including flanking strike which you wont grab as marksman) Full Marksman Talents. Your pet is doing 27% of your Melee Damage. This number will be much lower if it simmed ranged damage comparatively. This is with no buffs except an agility elixir and heart of the lion.
But realistically if it’s compared to ranged damage(Unfortunately it’s not), your pet would probably only be doing like 17% of your DPS(And this is being gracious, and the Pet DPS is also being increased by Flanking Strike which Marksman wont use). It’s clear that Marksman spec would do more damage than a melee build with no talents/runes. Meaning we will even be nice and say that your pet ends up doing 20% of your damage.
So without all the pet runes and going for marksman runes/talents and using lone wolf. Marksman would do more damage than going full Marksman build, and grabbing pet runes, it wont be crazy above, and there is the issue with doing raid mechanics, but if you had a boss raid dummy, and you could just let it all out. Marksman with lone wolf would be better than Marksman with Pet Runes. BM Talents with pet runes, really help your pet out to make it feel strong, even though it feels strong while using marksman talents, in terms of damage being done between ranged attacks and your pet, Marksman in lone wolf will do crazy damage.
Does that mean it’ll do more damage than BM or Survival Spec. I can tell you one thing it wont do more DPS than survival melee hunter. But it’ll be close to BM spec, and will probably be determined by luck when it comes to crit chance.
It’s crazy that sims are putting lonewolf better than lions, I thought flanking strike would play a big part in melee hunter dmg, specially being way easier to stack now
Did people forget to remove the pet DPS with LW melee sims? You lose out on the pet damage on top of the 20% stats when you go LW.
On my most recent Kelris parse, my hunter had 218 dps, with 54.7 coming from my pet. That’s 54.7/218 = 25% of the damage delt. Removing the pet, would leave 163.3 dps from shot abilities. Applying lone wolf 163.3*1.3 = 212 dps. That’s with the 20% lion buff included as well. Lone wolf is still a dps loss at 25. It may be different at 40 as pets don’t scale as well now due to all the needless phase 1 nerfs. At 25, lone wolf is still a dps loss.
You can’t include 20% stats with lone wolf. You gain 10% stats as a non hunter. hunters gain 20% because you gain an additional 1% per raid member near you
Pretty sure it will always be a DPS loss over other options. What makes LW good is not needing to rely on the pet, it’s a good rune when in group PvP as pets die easily.
It’s even worse in pvp because 20% stamina is a massive survivability boost and is way more valuable than lone wolf could ever be.
Been testing it in the barrens and the dps compared to running a pet with lions is reaaaalllllly close. Averaging 170 dps for Lone Wolf and was about 175 for Pet and Lions buff. Thats close enough that I would say that its in a much better place now then it was before. I think it would be a dps increase running it if there are 2 hunters one say a BM hunter the other a lets say MM hunter the MM hunter runs Lone Wolf and gains on dps while the BM hunter provides kings to the rest of the raid.
m8 you cant test your dps in the barrens
stop
Yes I can. What other target dummies are there? This is purely self buffed testing a number of enemies and averaging the dps.
Pets scale now vs. classic, so it will be far more at 60 then it was. Plus look at the new pet runes. Mana back and ranged attack speed with pet crits.
A melee hunter is the only valid reason now that they changed it to all damage. Melee hunters are already going to miss out on a lot of the new pet utility. Also since pets scale with RAP (unless it was changed), they are far less useful to melee hunters. Though solo, the pet utility is huge, so maybe there is that, but in a group, I question why you would melee hunter when warriors exist.
I highly doubt it with the new runes that gain mana and ranged attack speed from pets. Also pet avoidance means they don’t insta-die to raid mechanics anymore.
This is true. Guess it will boil down to what niche blizzard is trying to fill. I don’t think they want to make Lone Wolf out to be stupid OP like Beast Mastery was at the start. It probabally still needs a buff like 10% to all stats then it would be done.
No the sim calculator automatically removes the pet if you use the lone wolf option
