Log in issue, game doesn't load, repair doesn't fix it

Hi all,
I tried posting this earlier but don’t see it, sorry if it’s a duplicate.
I’m unable to log in. I enter my password and authenticator code, the screen says logging in… for about a minute, then gives me a prompt to go offline.

Checking some trouble shooting tips, I’ve run the scan/repair function several times.

Each time it says:
“Whoops! Looks like something broke. Give it another shot.
Error Code : BLZBNTAGT00000BB8”

I get the option to Update, run that, then the scan starts up automatically, giving the same error message. I’ve run the scan/repair and update several times.

So then I clicked on the tech link in the error code message and it says:

This error is caused by a problem downloading or writing new update data. Try the following steps to resolve this error.

Update or temporarily uninstall any security programs, which may mistakenly identify the login module as a security threat.

If you’re using a wireless connection, optimize your internet connection to rule out a connection issue.

Run the repair tool to repair any damaged game files.

Disable any proxies that may interfere with the login module.

Advanced Troubleshooting
Try creating a new administrator account to resolve permissions issues.

If you’re using a VPN, try removing it.

Run a security scan to remove any viruses or malware infections.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Battle.net App may resolve rare launcher issues.
If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the game.

I’m not using VPN, use McAffee anti-virus, and I don’t think I would have administrator permissions issues as this is my personal computer and only I use it. I had logged on and played earlier in the day.

Game version 9.0.5.38134

Anyone have any similar issues and how did they resolve them?
Thanks!

Also,
I checked on uninstalling/re-installing Battle.net. Haven’t done it yet. In my Control Panel I only see Blizzard App which is on my desktop. Is that the one to uninstall/re-install? But I haven’t located the Battle.net Tools folder.

Open Control Panel.

Click Uninstall a program.

Right-click on Battle.net and select Uninstall. This will begin the uninstallation process.

Note: If you do not see Battle.net, look for Blizzard Battle.net desktop app.
If the client is not listed, manually uninstall the Blizzard Battle.net
desktop app:
Click Start ( Windows Key + Q in Windows 8), and select All Programs.

After locating the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app, right-click the file and select Open File Location.
Move one folder up and delete the Battle.net folder.
Note: If you do not see Battle.net, look for Blizzard Battle.net desktop app.
Delete the Battle.net Tools folder to remove any remaining Blizzard Battle.net desktop app helper programs.
Reinstall the client.

Hi Kedrikk

Did you try reinstalling the Bnet app. You would uninstall from the Control Panel > Programs and Features. You will need to remove a folder afterwards that is found in the default C: > ProgramData.

Do this to locate then delete the Battle.net Tools folder:

*First restart computer to end any running Blizzard processes. Then right-click the Start button and select Run to open the Run command in Windows. *

(or use keyboard shortcut: Windows key + R)

Type or paste %PROGRAMDATA% in the Run command box. Click OK. The ProgramData folder should open. Delete the Battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders.

Reinstall Bnet:

Battle.net App – Blizzard Entertainment

Afterwards right click on the Battle.net desktop icon. Select “Run as Administrator”.

Thanks Tratt, I’ll try those steps and let you know. Thanks!

Good place to start Kedrikk. Let me know

Tratt, I followed the info you gave and uninstalled and re-installed Battle Net, also removing the folders from the Program\Data folder. The reinstall went ok. When I opened Warcraft it automatically went through scan/repair, gave the same error msg as I showed above, then the update prompt came up and ran that. Then an auto scan ran next, but then the error showed again followed again by update prompt. I exited at that point.

Not sure now what I can do next, or if I will need a reinstall of Warcraft which is a longish process.

Have you checked for updates to Windows, and also the GPU driver?

Hi Elocin,
My windows 10 is up to date, just an optional feature update is listed. Nvidia prompted me and updated drivers a week or two ago so should be up to date, though not sure if that was drivers or nVidia panel. nVidia automatically prompts me to update when updates are available so should be up to date. I did try checking with nVidia’s site but even though I have Java current it still kept prompting for Java to scan my system. Prompted me to load it so I did and still the scan wouldn’t work. That’s not your issue of course. I will call Dell tech support to check on the system updates to make sure all is up to date.

Hey Kedrikk,

This error may indicate that the game install is corrupt or has damaged data files.

Try running a Scandisk and Defrag (or Optimize if you have an SSD) on the drive that WoW is installed on. Then restart the Battle.net app and see if that allows the repair to complete.

If the error is still occurring after the scan then it may be that the game install has corrupt files that can’t be repaired by the repair function. A full uninstall and reinstall of WoW may be needed at that point. After WoW is uninstalled I would recommend to go in and manually delete the main World of Warcraft folder, just to ensure that any left over folders get removed so new fresh folders are created during the install.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Jambrix.

I called Dell and they checked my system, found some other issues and reloaded Windows 10, updated bios, and drivers were up to date. So the computer, Win 10 and all drivers are up to date.

I loaded Warcraft. Since the error hasn’t been resolved it automatically goes into a quick update same as before, does a scan/repair but gives the same error as I posted above. Then if I continue it repeats the cycle with a prompt to update again, which will then do a scan/repair going to the error.

So now with everything updated, including Win10, drivers, the system bios – I’m going to uninstall and reinstall Warcraft on my computer. I’ll let you know when that’s done.
Thanks for all your advice and feedback.

Edit:
I reinstalled Warcraft and it’s now working fine. The install only took about 45 minutes, not bad. I was expecting a much longer install.
Thanks again for all the advice and response.
