Just wondering how locks are doing in higher mythics keys.
I used to struggle as destruction on mob damage. Then I started staggering my two cooldowns. Mix in an on-use trinket and you’ll consistantly have relatively high damage output.
As usual running the correct powers and traits are important as well as smart havoc targets. It can get mechanically challanging and rewarding, but nothing too difficult.
it’s really not bad any spec but can be difficult to get invited into lfg keys because people have a stigma for locks in m+ for some reason. I will say demo not having an interupt can feel rough in some dungeons
I’ve tanked with destro locks in my groups. I try to pull around cataclysm’s 30 second CD and the Infernal that they can do their damage. I find them more consistent damage wise than fire mages because most of the time in LFG, you’re going to get a fire mage who is mediocre and doesn’t optimize their combustion phases. Just about every destro lock I’ve pugged with brought competitive damage.
Destro starts to perform well as soon as the player realizes 2 things:
-
Our aoe is cataclysm - havoc - chaos bolts. Not RoF.
-
If you’re using vision of perfection (which you should at least as minor), you don’t save the infernal, you just cast on trash whenever it’s off cd unless you know that next pull is a boss.
Pretty much this hits the nail, granted my lock only timed 16+, but RoF is useless.
Do not underestimate RoF. There is a playstyle many don’t see that makes it scary in AoE situations, Memory of Lucid Dreams major.
The bigger the pull, the crazier this gets.
I’ll really have to take the time and record a full M+ run some day.
And yes, I know mobs are on the move, I know this is a static test… just please take it as advice and try to see that RoF isn’t entirely useless.
Lucid Major active with 10 mobs = infinite RoF spam. You’ll get more damage out if you’d straight just cast bolts.
I’m just saying, in M+ with affixs in high keys, you rarely and I mean rarely have the mobs stand still. It’s just not viable in high keys.
I’m better of chaos bolting them RoF.
Listen, I believe in WQs and low keys where you can just pull everything and tank can just stand still or have minimal movement, yes RoF is great you can grab 5+ mobs.
But this direction that’s WoW is heading, it’s literally who can burst the quickest while moving… and that’s the problem we facing. We have no mobility outside gate, which is on a 2min CD. Not to also forget to mention we are literally the slowest class in game at natural walking speed…
We have Burning rush, which is a talent choice our literally only mobility that deals damage to us on the same line as dark pact and demon skin.
Compared to all range classes in game, they do what we do but better, being a turret style class isn’t needed anymore.
Honestly I personally think RoF should be reduced in soul shard cost.
Let’s look at last years mdi, I think Warlock was used once, and in 2020 I don’t think it was even brought.
Outside of lock rocks that’s currently the only utility we bring.
Maybe burning rush should be changed to cause a flat% damage, say 10% current hp and give the movement speed for 10 seconds on a 30 sec CD to be on par with most other classes.
Warlocks dont really have the tools needed to do M+, they remove them this whole BFA expansion.
As I said, people really underestimate things that are not “meta”…
I recently did an FH 18 intime where I went away with 92k DPS overall. Sure, most of it was CB and you really do weave in those CBs after your Lucid runs out, but RoF can be a significant part of your damage, even if mobs are moving.
I don’t doubt it but the way you describe it, it’s like this was pre-decided. Big pulls (you mentioned 10 mobs) and full aoe. That’s almost never the case in m+ and especially with pugs. So to the average lock, we’re saying forget RoF unless against 5+ mobs and provided tank is not kiting too much.
A lot of this discussion is moot if Blizz continues SL in the direction they appear to be headed. AOE caps on most of the classes are going to significantly reduce the current practice of overly-large “grab everything” pulls.
