That’s just how this game is, most specs break down to the correct use of one or two specific abilities.
Mobility is just fine, it’s speed warlock is lacking and burning rush makes up for it somewhat. Instant cast warlock gate is very good mobility, pick up a gateway control shard so you don’t have to click the gate.
Are you high? Warlock has the second best defensive utility in the game, just behind Pally. Drain life is garbage though, honestly shouldn’t even be on your bar.

Our defenses still have major flaws.
Resolve is a 3 min cd, not 2. Meaning it’s desynchronized with enemy burst CDs. It’s good for 1 go, after that you won’t have it for the next.
It also requires a talent investment to be worth anything. Baseline it’s a 3 min cd with 25% damage reduction. Laughable
Healthstone has charges meaning it’ll run out if combat goes on long enough. It encourages melee to keep on you because as time passes your defenses will crumble
Dark pact has the same issue. Because it scales based on health percentage, you essentially lose a defensive ability as your health gets lower. Again encouraging melee to just keep zugzuging.
Coil healing I believe is nerfed in PvP. I might be mistaken but I believe I read somewhere it’s nerfed against players.
Gateway and port are decent. Although port is carried by impish instincts and the fact is abuses LoS.
Idk of any other class or spec that has limited charges on their defenses or whose defenses weaken/become unusable as they get low on health. Warlock defenses feel archaic and old. Like they’re stuck in MoP (which I believe is the last time our defenses changed other than dark pact). I suspect that’s why they leave impish instincts the way it is. It’s incredibly strong but it’s carrying the fact that our other defenses are lacking.
And comparing us to evokers is not a fair comparison. They are designed to be glass cannons. Their defense is their mobility, not their sheer defensive CDs and tankiness.
As this is a PvE thread, those points are null.
Warlocks are very tanky and have great defenses in PvE, and at least for Hellcaller Destro, very mobile.
You know, I agree that Warlock feels outdated in a lot of ways, and it is feeling pretty squishy recently compared to how it typically feels. But warlock has really good defensives for pve. I hate the Life Drain nerf, but they cut self healing across the board so it makes sense that life drain would get hit. I just wish it didn’t take sooooooooo long for such a minor return.
While our defensives aren’t all that bad, they do have their flaws ( as listed above ) and aren’t what they used to be.
Our self healing outside of cooldowns just isn’t there anymore. (which just about every class has now - hell rogues have a potion that is a skill, to put things in perspective.) Siphon Life (which is a bad pick) , Soul leech, Drain life… all are barely trickle out to nothing.
In regards to mobility however, hellcaller destro with SB is lifesaver with all the movement heavy mechanics that are always present now-a-days.
Sorry, was talking more in the aspect of pve. I don’t play PVP so don’t know how good their defensive are in that.

25% damage reduction and it heals for 30% of your max health over 10 seconds if you’re Diabolist (so Demo).
Your existence on these forums seems to be complaining about warlock and nothing else. I don’t get it. Warlocks almost always have a viable spec in any form of content. It’s the meme.
This is also a PvE thread so it’s interesting you keep self-inserting PvP woes.
I’d argue our defenses are more powerful thanks to Soulburn and combos.
We have a Lay On Hands every minute.
Shields can be used while stunned/CCd.
Instant Gateway.
Teleport that can remove and make you immune to snares.
Passive shield and health regen.
Soul Link for pet to take 10% damage.

Dark pact is still useless if you’re low health even in PvE
How many specs have to stop mid boss fight to conjure 3 more charges of their defensive ability?
Most warlocks are Hellcaller destro. And even with talents, it’s still not synced with dps CDs so my point still stands.
Viable does not mean without issue. Pointing out issues in specs and advocating for better design is something I care about. If you perceive it as complaining you are free to not read or respond. No one is forcing you.

Personally I think Healthstone changes should go away for the warlock. Having limited uses on a defensive is weird and archaic.
Dark Pact could also be better. Getting hit by something unexpectedly in PvE can put you in a position where that defensive is simply not an option to use.
You have a few options here.
Stop taking avoidable damage.
Mortal Coil should be your 1st heal.
DBM warns you of inc damage for Dark Pact.
Use the “Lay on Hands” oh-sh!t macro.
Adjust your talents.
Be aware of shard spending (knowing when to bank vs spending when you will gain one soon)

I also have the talent artificer, which can make new helthstoned in a second. Maybe even else time.
If you’re running out of charges in a boss fight, that just means you are being bad. The furthest I got was to 1 charge and only once did I had to make a new one because the healers were sleeping. But man, dark pact, demonic health stones, mortal coil, all the teleports makes me a beast in pve. I hardly ever die and heal up instantly. My defensive in pve is amazing for the content I do.

I think there’s a reason you hide behind an alt because this is a WILD take. Yeah, something that can give you a ton of health at the press of a button once every minute has a limit? No kidding.
It’s even more insane when you empower them because you get a giga heal +20% max life.
It’s not worth anyones time here to continue “debating” with you because your existence is to take anything to do with Warlock and somehow say its bad. The fact you think defensives, in a thread about PVE, needs to be synced with DPS cooldowns is HILARIOUS.
If you’re struggling to survive in PvE as one of the tankiest classes in the game you’re absolutely the problem. 100% chance your failures are due to your own lack of experience and you’re blaming the class instead, so you’ll never improve enough to realize that in the end. Self-reflection is tough.
If you’re having trouble with survivability in pve you’re just bad at the class and taking excessive amounts of avoidable damage. It’s as simple as that.
I would say he just lacks experience to know and play his defenses.
We are one of the few classes, not to mention being a clothie, that could be the last few standing when everyone drops.
Feels like a bad azz hero when you get a boss down with only a tanks and heals up with you and a few dps.
Or heals get deleted in M+ but in the last few seconds BOOM full health, rez someone and beat timer.
