Lockpicking - With the Current Profession System

I am having fun thinking about how Lockpicking would feel if overhauled to mesh with the current profession system, instead of being a passive skill per character level.

For each content expansion, use thieves-only drops from pickpocketing to craft lockpicks and use them to unlock boxes, with profession perks to increase gold from lockboxes, increased chance to find higher quality lockboxes, or improve lockpick quality (craft an unbreakable soulbound lockpick?).

There seems to be some potential to recapture the charm of the old lockpick system, alongside updated and interesting rogue-only gameplay.

Bring on them RPG systems! Why not expand on a 20 year old skill?

Such a thing sadly died in Cataclysm when the profession was made passive, but had potential to drop world rogue only epics from lockboxes, they did not update the profession as the expansion went forward and quickly became obsolete.

Following each expansion lock picking became more and more irrelevant, like the rogue profession poisons and many other rogue abilities and skills. long stare at pickpocket

Yes I know legion had a pickpocket minigame, it was fun until the toy got nerfed.
