maybe reconnecting with people you didnt know were playing and the inability to play is awesome
Once the closure related to the pandemic ends, traffic will slow and I think you’ll see them unlocked. For now they had to do it to deal with the multi-hour queues some realms were experience. The inhabitants of those servers were demanding something be done, so they offered free transfers and locked the servers. What else could they do?

I too dislike, and disagree with locking realms. It definitely is against my preference.
blizz layers kinda fixxed the Que how about you unlock and not limit your community

I don’t know, I’m really not a tech person so I couldn’t tell you what they have the technological capability to do to deal with the problem. I’m just saying it seems like a reasonable step to take until traffic died down.

I will agree that they seem to have locked more servers than necessary. Certainly the largest ones like Whitemane needed to be locked, but I’m not sure why they locked so many. I made a horde alt on grob just before they locked it and I’m really glad I did because RP-PvP is the only kind of server I want to play on.

They are locked to control the population on these servers. If they keep letting players join then the temporary layers become not so temporary.

That sounds reasonable, but it’s not necessarily accurate. Servers were previously unlocked, and queue times had subsided.
We don’t know what the future holds. Locking servers could have long-term negative effects on their populations.
