Locking PVP offset pieces behind higher arena rating will prevent new players from being able to pvp

It is not a smart idea to lock offset pieces behind arena rating requirements without providing previous seasons gear as a starter at least. Am I misremembering or wasn’t the previous season’s offset gear available in original TBC at a very slight discount?

Personally I’d be OK with not locking anything but shoulders/weapon behind rating. (2.4k s3xp 2.5k tbccxp as a meme class/spec here, for reference)

This issue is compounded by the fact the seasons are stupid short for some dumb reason.

every other season no rating on off-pieces suddenly season 4, they spring this on us while shortening the season. what is wrong with this company.

They’re trying to be accurate to the original TBC rollout to be fair. I just remember being able to get last seasons gear too, which they haven’t implemented.

LOL if they were doing that there would be no MMR and teams would start at 1500

wait what? boots/belt/ etc are rating gated?

yeah that’s S4, its when blizzard went off their rocker to keep PVP gear out of raids… Even though PVE gear is an order of magnitude better in most cases.

Yeah, seems like they had two options here- keep the old style where you start at 1500, but ad an MMR and some controls to prevent win trading (rampant with old system), or use the new system. They created a 3rd, worse option, where you start at 0 and have to play 30-50 games to get to 1500 if you’re an average player, or 30-50 games to get to 1200 if you’re a below average. This made team hopping legitimately awful too. Then they didn’t buff points rewards to compensate from what they took away until halfway through season 2 so a lot of casuals didn’t see the point.

can u explain what is behind a rating requirement

Think of it this way! With this season being cut short, and most season 4 offset pieces still locked behind arena rating, and most set pieces locked behind the kind of arena rating that the majority of the current arena participants can’t hit (Challenger is in the low 1400s and the lowest rating requirement is 1,550), after you buy the 3 pieces with no rating requirement, it doesn’t matter for the majority of arena players that season 3 was so short and they don’t have much season 3 gear bought yet. Because in season 4, they can still mostly only spend AP on season 3 gear lol!

taps forehead

They’re making certain PVP off set items like season 4 bracers and boots have an arena rating requirement, similar to how arena set shoulders have.

why tf would they ever do that. why do they gotta do the most unnecessary sh** in this game like they do in retail, whats next a garrison in wrath

that’s the thing though, they won’t even be able to get the season 3 offpieces anymore so they will just have no gear (and for many classes, this means no chance to compete unless they have gear from last season)

Basically, they HATE arena and they want it to die so they’re gating the hell out of it so we have to fight people -400 rating below us, ya know because that’s really gonna motivate them to Q up.

what is the rating required

copied from an OLD s4 article/ SK Gaming

The new Season 4 items will have the below personal and team arena rating requirements:
Shoulders: 2200
Weapon: 2050
Head: 1700
Chest: 1600
Legs: 1550
Gloves: none
Off-hand: none

In addition, some of the Season 4 quality items that will be purchasable with honor will also carry a personal and team arena rating requirement:
Boots: 1700
Ring: 1650
Bracers: 1575
Belt: none
Necklace: none
Trinket: none

The changes to the rating requirements for these items reflect the nature of the items, their power, and the relative difficulty that should be had when attempting to obtain them. These items are comparable to those found in the newest 25 person raid zone, Sunwell Plateau, and should therefore also feel very challenging to obtain.

The problem with TBC classic, getting to 1050 now is what 1550 then was like.
Actually hitting 1550 now in TBCC? You have to be a Challenger to buy anything.

I was being sarcastic. I think it makes no sense to keep the rating requirements from og TBC.

I don’t understand why they don’t adjust the rating requirement the same way they did the title cutoffs. 1414 certainly wasn’t no Challenger (5s) in 2008 but it is today. So if 1,550 was, say top 70 percentile in og TBC, and 1,200 is top 70th percentile today, then the new rating requirement should be 1,200. Literally just the same thing they did for title cutoffs….

blizz iz sooooo dumb lol. its not enough you gotta farm 20k honor for the boots, LOL im sick

Yeah tis super disgusting, they need to just straight up dump the TBC Arena system entirely and replace it with the MoP arena system.

Say lets do that for the whole PVP system

I’m a Challenger and I can’t buy anything that has a rating requirement. :frowning: It’s only 1400 something cutoff for Challenger and the lowest rating requirement is 1,550.

So in season 4 after I get the pieces with no rating requirement, no use for AP other than buying discounted season 3 set pieces I guess. Maybe that’s why they thought it won’t matter if the season is cut short and the majority of arena participants haven’t bought much season 3 gear yet?

Honor isn’t that bad, it’s looking like it’s 40 EOTS marks as well. That’s the other issue in my eyes, as well as the raiting requirements.

May wait on buying them, as I and many others were burned buying the off pieces in week 1 at and full price. And then to reduce the mark cost by half in week 2.
