What are locked threads? I’ve seen some recently. What exactly are they for/ what do they do?
They’re threads that can’t be responded to; Blizz usually locks them when people are either already breaking the rules while posting or it’s headed that way fast.
A locked thread is a thread that Blizzard decided should no longer continue. They remain in existence (AKA they are not deleted) but you can’t post on them anymore.
A particular case of locked thread is the automatically locked thread. When a thread has far too many community flags in it, the Forum System automatically locks it until a moderator can take a look at the flags and pass judgment.

Also if you see a thread locked, best to not make another thread to talk about it as talking about moderation is also bad except for in this case as it is more of a general question of rules.
Though sometimes they’ll merge a bunch of threads together when there’s lots of duplicates of a topic being created simultaneously. They’ll pick one thread, merge the others into it, and lock the others.
