Title says it all. My main is a warrior who is DPS mainly but tank for OS in dungeons. Looking to play something different in PvE mostly.
Depends on what you’re looking for out of an alt really. Sounds like lock would be a big departure from warrior, for more than one reason.
Warlock would be a huge change, but you’d start at level 1.
DK gets to start at 55, but you still might have to revisit all the starter areas for profession skills depending on your choices.
I recommend Unholy DK. It feels familiar enough due to being melee plate DPS, but you’re managing a pet, direct damage spells/attacks, and magical DoTs while staying in melee range most of the time. You can use the classic 2H spec, or try out the meta DW spec (which I recommend due to using Death and Decay/Blood Boil in every situation, making it feel pretty unique to play AND it tops the damage charts if geared/played correctly).
If you get sick of Unholy and want to feel more like a bursty warrior again without actually playing your warrior, then you can go Frost for DPS or Blood for tanking (or a meme DPS build which won’t be all that good until much later into the expansion).
Warlock one caster one meele
You will always need a lock for a raid.
I was thinking I’d use a boost if I went with the lock
I mean, Warr and DK are somewhat similar. Both melee. Both can tank.
Gear wise its pretty competitive. I find gearing clothies is a lot easier.
If you want free gear, go rogue, shamy or hunter.
There is a severe lack of resto shamans in pug workd.
Warlocks are solid all around. A lot of warlocks though. Even more DKs.
Lock best DPS and not overpopulated
I would usually recommend DK because it starts at 55 anyway and has a unique starting area. Since you are already melee however, you may want the caster.
Do both?
Warlock to give good change of pace and different experience
I do have a 50 something rogue I was leveling up before wotlk. I used to really love my rogue back in wrath, I’m just wondering if it’s going to be too much melee. Not really feeling like a diversion from what I normally do.
I have a hunter but it’s on a different server and can’t be transferred right now due to restrictions, otherwise I would consider it.
I have considered shaman before but I kind of just want an alt that feels different from what I usually do but also can really pump damage effortlessly. I don’t mean a simple rotation necessarily…just that they’re capable of doing hella deeps. I’m a competent player but the first part of wrath has been a bit deflating as a warrior…not that I didn’t expect it
In the immortal words of a woman with chronic bronchitis: “ain’t nobody got time for dat.”
Too many dks, go lock.
Top dps right now, both demo and affliction own the meters
DKs are insanely overpopulated, Locks are criminally underpopulated.
Almost every pug ive come across has the disclaimer (FULL ON PLATE) in their advertisements on my server, and i see many guilds begging for Locks and giving the “FULL ON PALA/DK/WAR” disclaimer.

Warlock… with a DK, you’ll be chasing the exact same gear on both characters: same two-handers, same plate, same trinkets.
Switch it up, for sure.
Lock seems like the better option from a population standpoint. But that’s not all there is to enjoy a class. Have you played a caster before? Do you consider yourself a melee guy? If so that would really make me think the rogue actually is your best choice since it is so underpopulated.
