Loch Modan Gate

Here’s a question:

Should the Thorium Point flight point be in the game from the start?

Putting aside the actual question and rep grinding etc, should the Thorium Point flight path be there or should people be required to go from Kargath or Loch Modan to get to Blackwing Lair.

Before 1.7, people would have to get the Key to the Searing Gorge before they could let their entire raid get to MC and BWL. It was a nice Vanilla “mini-attunement” which was removed by 1.7.

Given that we’re having Progressive Content Release, should Thorium Point flight path be restricted till CP 4?

Yes.

But we won’t see it happen because people are only #nochanges when it doesn’t inconvenience them.

I’ve seen somewhere were Thorium Point along with the Hinterlands won’t come out til a later phase. No one said anything about the gate being opened already and not requiring a key.

Guess it could be an open area w/ no prerequisites to get in but no FP’s in it either?

The gate will always require a key. It did up until Cataclysm I believe. It’s more that no-one cared because they had the Flight Point.

Even back in May they were still asking ‘Well what do you think?’ to this question. I hadn’t seen it discussed much since then.

If the searing gorge gate is closed, people will just use the burning steppes flight path. If that one didn’t exist until later (I don’t recall), then people will use redridge. Redridge is STILL faster than loch modon to get to MC/BWL/etc.

I got the gate key in vanilla since it was a fun little quest I found completely by accident.

I remember having to get some sort of key in classic to get through the gate.

You got the key off a big lizard in Searing Gorge near the Badlands entrance.

I expect the flight point to be there from day one, the gate to be locked, and the key available from the mob. I think I had the key, I know I’ve killed the mob, but I’ve never had a call to use it. By the time you get high enough to enter Searing Gorge, you’re running in through Badlands (where you already quested) anyway. The flight point showed up, like, what, a few months in to the game? No reason to not have the flight point at launch.

I’d prefer the game not launch with Thorium Point. However it’s very standard to include Thorium Point at launch especially on private servers.

The transition from IF -> Loch -> SG pass -> Searing Gorge -> BRM is great. Like going from a village in Zelda into death mountain.

Obtaining the key is a nice secret and it feels good to open the door for people. I used to lead UBRS raids and wait for everyone to enter the SG pass gate. It adds more RP.

Not if you have the key. It’s a straight shot there from Ironforge (the Vanilla capital).

Prior to 1.7, Alliance raiders made sure that they got the key simply to be able to get there at a decent pace. Also Morgan’s Vigil was added later I think.

September 2005.

That’s my preference too. Or at least until BWL comes out, since a large part of the reason for Thorium Point was to aid in getting advanced FR gear for BWL, and for the graveyard that’s far closer than any other in BRM.

I remember just jumping over the gate but it’s been so long I don’t remember the method.

I think you go up the mountains on the dun morogh side

Long way around past the beast you have to kill to get the key.

I usually went to get the FP at lower levels as I discovered it during my exploration phase. I didn’t even know you could get a key until my first MC PUG.

I am happy with all the inconveniences. Not all of us!

Yeah, some of us had to learn that there was no flight point first

You don’t need a key to get into searing gorge. Just go through the badlands.

That’s called the long way round :stuck_out_tongue:

Agreed. I would be perfectly content if TP was put in late, but the FP was never enabled. Horde can easily get to BRM from Badlands and Alliance has the FP in Burning Steppes. Both are similar distances to BRM.

Not so long if doing a quest takes longer

Quest is a one time deal. Going through the Badlands has to be done each and every time you travel there.

Not if the fp is there. And why wouldn’t it be?
