Ever since the patch drop I’ve been struggling with loading screens sometimes eight minutes in the world. Today I haven’t even been able to zone into Stormwind on the Eastern Kingdoms from Legion; the loading screen takes about ten minutes and then it disconnects me once the loading bar gets filled.
Anyone else having issues like this?
What Mac do you have and what type of drive does it use? If it’s a spinning platter/Fusion drive, there isn’t really much you can do except to reinstall the game by deleting the /Data folder in the main WoW folder (/World of Warcraft/Data), emptying the trash, and launching the Battle.net app and clicking “Update” to reinstall the game. That will lessen the loading effects somewhat, but unless you are playing from a SSD or NVMe drive, will only offer minor relief. APFS + CASC on a non-SSD/NVMe drive is going to be abysmal.
In english, it’s severely inefficient compression format that’s massively fragmented, on a volume format that’s also massively slow, both designed only for SSD in mind so they run terrible on HDDs
