Never mind, this actually looks like step to the bizarre. The launcher is now saying there will be live maintenance during regular maintenance. Thought they were just doing maintenance while the game was live for a change.
Given how many issues we usually seem to have coming out of maintenance, I shudder to think what would happen if they did live maintenance.

We had that happen with regular maintenance a couple months ago, so really that’s kind of a false dichotomy.
They’re doing both live and 7AM to 11AM.
I feel bad for the guy at Blizzard who has to write out all those $0.45 refund cheques.
Live maintenance = Battlenet
Scheduled maintenance = WoW
Please let’s all finally learn the difference between the two.
That’s odd. My launcher in the middle says the game will be unavailable during the maintenance, but when I mouse over the triangle in the top right area, it does indeed say it will be a live maintenance, albeit with a warning about disconnects.
This could be a very interesting experiment. Fortunately I won’t be on then, so I guess I’ll wait and see later on how it went from the threads on the forums.

Ya looks like they’re doing live maintenance while the servers are down for regular maintenance.
You need to learn to differentiate from bNet Launcher maintenance vs WoW game maintenance.
Click on a different game other than WoW and if the notice you did NOT expect is still present across different games, it’s for the bNet Launcher, not any specific game.
The note doesn’t say it’s “Battlenet Maintenance.” If it’s maintenance to battlenet, call it “Battlenet Maintenance.”
And to be perfectly clear, none of us knows if there’s some hard internal definition that says “Live maintenance” is only battle net maintenance. I’m sure it’s possible for there to be maintenance to WoW that they could call “Live Maintence” because you can still play but there might be reduced functionality.
It seems pretty straightforward… if the same notice appears for all games, there’s only two explanations: a) every game is having maintenance at the same time; b) that specific maintenance is for the bNet Launcher.
A little logic can solve seemingly difficulty mysteries.
The orange triangle at the top of the launcher is for battle.net announcements. Game announcements happen on the page for the game.
It doesn’t need to. It’s on the top of Battlenet, not the game you’re on.
Yellow arrows: Bnet. Notice how it’s at the TOP of the launcher.
Blue connected arrows: Game. Notice how it’s NEXT TO and within the window of the game itself.

The only blizzard game I play is WoW and you’re right, It was horrible of me, to make such a mistake in your presence. I should have used the basic steps you’ve given to make the correlation that “Live” means “Battlenet” when multiple games, which I don’t play, have “Live” maintenance at the same time.
In the future I will not get my hopes up that blizzard is making a positive step and instead of “Scheduled” down maintenance, they are moving to live maintenance.
