Little things that made Classic better

I miss talent trees and having access to my offspec abilities for situational use.

Also original Darkshore, specifically Auberdine. Probably because it was my first real ‘omg this is an entire seemless world to explore and adventure in’ moment. Ventured too far out of town, killed by Moonkins, trained fishing, good times were had that afternoon.

All of the original zones were infinitely better.

Take Undead for example. Fresh out of Warcraft 3, the undead were slowly advancing from Tirisfal Glades, ready to make their place in the world. Discovering plagues, clashing with powerful scorcerors in Silverpine Forest.

Now, after a brief thrust through Tirisfal, you’re thrown into the meat grinder of an oppressive Warchief that is trying to kill your race by throwing them at an impossible to take city.

My favorite thing about the classic zones is how open ended they feel. Your not forced into world ending blah blah or high speakah of the Horde in the military. Your just an adventurer paling with other adventurers to kill bosses and get loot.

I also liked the aesthetics they had in old ashenvale/auberdine and 1k needles, I even miss old Azshara for the looks.

Would you believe I still occasionally get whispers from people when I talk in trade chat saying they remember me from way back in the day?

Also, I didn’t stop playing after Wrath. I’ve been actively playing this game this entire time.

Yup.

Sharding, Zone scaling, removal of any real talenting choices, dumbing down of world content to the point where you win just by standing still, RNG, gear inflation with such vast ILVL disparities that open-world PVP is a joke, excessive cross-realm mixing, the list goes on forever.

What I don’t understand is that in interviews and statements Bliz has generally acknowledged that there are many elements in the game that have served to make it worse over the years. And yet, the devs working on the modern game (aka BfA) don’t seem to be going out of their way to try to fix these things. 8.2 only takes baby-steps, honestly, and only because the screaming by the player base reached such a crescendo that it affected their bottom line in a very real, quick, and seemingly permanent manner. But bliz has completely fallen flat on fixing anything beyond the bare minimum, and they are even continuing to introduce abject stupidities into the game (such as removing the last vestiges of mount uniqueness from the game, for example). Only the devs working on classic seems to actually be in synch with the players.

I honestly don’t think Blizzard believes their own ingratiating statements when it comes to the modern game. It gives me very little hope that the modern game will ever be able to recover. Classic could be the end.

The dumbing down of world content seems like a deliberate decision by Blizzard just to push everyone into instanced content for the “real game.”

It’s the “E-Sportsification” of WoW, where the only thing that matters is if it can be streamed for a tournament or high-end guilds doing world’s first raids.

Players Cooperating and Being Helpful - Yes there were some bad eggs, but everyone learned how bad they smelled so…

Ok, here’s a very little thing. I can’t wait to be able to right-click and kill critters without getting tossed into a damn Pokemon battle. It boggles my mind there’s no option to disable that.

I remember back in the day when CS was on cooldown and I wanted to stop a cast if it was long enough I would poly then immediately break the poly if the target was low health so they wouldn’t heal and didn’t get the cast off. Just an interrupt and they could keep casting but buying an extra second of time can change the tide of a fight.

Also them clutch PoM Poly’s in the same manner when you didn’t have time to cast to prevent a healer from saving someone’s life.

There’s lots of nuance to how you would use a simple CC outside of just using it as a CC.
