Since it sounds like you are having to work the code from the ground up, why not go ahead and push a Linux client this time as well?

They are not having to rework all the code, just the backend and some graphical elements. Don't see this happening.

The better question is:
Could BFA have a Linux client from this as well?

We don't really need one. WoW runs great on wine + DXVK, and is as easy to install as clicking a button through Lutris. Blizzard has even given the DXVK project their blessing and stated they're perfectly fine with people using it, just that they couldn't officially support it or Linux.

Agreed that DXVK makes Azeroth great again, but cant deny it would be ideal to have a native client.

Absolutely would like to have a native client, but I fear Blizzard will take the EVE Online approach to 'official' client that's just a half-supported and neglected wine package
Isn't mac a linux platform? Can mac client run on linux?

Apple moved from OpenGL to their proprietary Metal API for graphics, and Blizzard followed suit, dropping OpenGL support for Metal.
A couple of years ago when OSX was running on OpenGL this may have been the case, but their proprietary graphics API is not compatible with Linux.
If Apple had done the sensible thing and adopted the Vulkan API, then maybe we'd see better support for WoW on Linux, but Apple had to go and make their own shoddy API because walled garden.

It was a little touch and go for a bit there with wine but the newest wine staging runs wow pretty well. Classic should run much better than current retail in any case.

Can you link to any of these pages?
I'd love to drop the crapware known as Windows, but am having trouble getting anything Blizz or wow related to run on Linux, specifically Linux Mint.

Ah. Now I don’t know much about this stuff. But can’t they just install metal on Linux to make it work?

Afraid not. Unless someone wants to go through the immense effort of translating Metal API calls over to Vulkan, Apple's Metal API will never run on Linux.
With that said, someone HAS gone through the immense effort of translating Microsoft's DX11 API calls over to Vulkan, and has done such an amazing job in doing so that the only DX11-capable games that don't run on linux now have DRM ala Denuvo baked in, causing the games to fail to launch.
For some insight into how well DXVK + WINE performs, I'm running a 1070TI + i5-8600k at stock settings at 1440p 144Hz and Ultra settings and I rarely get less than 90 fps in both WoW and Overwatch.
Since you guys are talking about it, can i ask : does anyone knows if the demo of Classic is also supporting mac like the retail game ?
This time around it was really simple, I didn't even really have to mess with winecfg beyond setting the compatibility to windows 10. Get the latest wine staging, 3.17 iirc. Make sure you're not using the generic video drivers - so not nouveau if you've got an NVIDIA card for example. That was it was remarkably painless compared to what I had to do to get Legion going.10/24/2018 04:31 PMPosted by DarkynhalvosI'd love to drop the crapware known as Windows, but am having trouble getting anything Blizz or wow related to run on Linux, specifically Linux Mint

They're using the current BFA client with the Classic database, so I think it's safe to assume that the Classic demo will support OSX.

Once you've got your video drivers in order you can use Lutris to apply all of the recommended performance tweaks for you.

You don't get WoW to work on Linux. You get Linux to work with WoW.
I know people in the past have got WoW to run on Wine. There's probably some other distros that would work even better now.
Linux is installed on less than 0,8% computers. Why should our money fund something for less than 1% of players?
