I regularly raid in a cross-faction group which has a lone warlock (horde, different server from me too). There have been a small # of times (3 or 4) when the lock used a gate for the group and at least 2 of those times my character couldn’t use it, both of those times I was the last person to go through, but nothing I did would work: stood nearly on it, used gateway control shard–nothing, right clicked it–nothing, used my mouse over interact keybind–nothing. There’s absolutely nothing that should have interfered with the activation and each time it failed I hadn’t used any sort of lock gate for days and I had attempted to use it within a 20-30 seconds of it getting placed (could be wrong and it could have been longer).
However, if I’m the 1st guy through – no issues.
Anyone with a lock main aware of a limit on how many people can use a lock gate? Or perhaps there’s a time limit where the gate becomes unusable but is still visible?
You get a debuff whenever you use it, preventing you from taking it again for a couple minutes.
There is no limit on the number of people that can take it and you can use the same gate multiple times as long as your debuff had expired.
Both times it failed for me I hadn’t used a lock gate in several days and I can say with 100% certainty that I didn’t have that debuff on me. One time it failed in combat and one time it failed out of combat.
The out of combat one was on some stairs, the lock got lazy and tossed down a gate to avoid some cardio, most of the raid followed. I was bringing up the rear after running back to loot some corpses and it would have been the first lock gate I had used in 5-6 days where I played a total of 4-5 hours over those 5-6 days. Maybe the game thinks I needed the cardio, it was confusing though.
could it be part of your UI set up or addons causing the interaction failure. I don’t know of anything that should be doing that but might be a place to check.

I believe there is an item you can purchase that allows you to use the gate if you are just near it, instead of having to actually click it. I’m not really sure where it is purchased, but someone here should be able to tell you

@Kettell, it’s called the gateway control shard and I have it and it also failed when other options failed.
@Ragnorok, that’s always possible. I’ll keep that in mind.
You don’t need this item anymore. In your options there is a keybind for “interact with nearby” or something similar. This will use gates, soulwells, talk to npcs, etc. I bound it to S for immediate gates in arena
If you have the de buff because you have recently used the gate and try to use it again you will get red writing on your screen saying something along the lines of “you cannot do this again so quickly”. I don’t remember exactly what it says but it doesn’t really matter.
If you are not getting this text then it is definitely an addon or something causing a glitch. Hope that helps narrow it down.

I think I’ve found an explanation for some of the lock gate issues I ran into but it doesn’t explain all of them. If the end point is not in your line of sight, the gate is unusable. And I do remember from SL where that started becoming an issue because Blizz nerfed a lock gate skip in one of the dungeons in the forest zone (the one with the “maze”). The game allows you to put the lock gate down where you don’t have LoS but it won’t allow you to use it.
This was a problem in Mechagon too. Short races could not use the gate to skip the last trash pack.

So you might have not associated this with LOS gateway issues yet but there is something you must know, and i swear this is not a gnome joke.
Due to Gnomes diminute size they actually can have Line of Sight Issues with Gateway other races does not have, usually due to some geometric formation inbetween the points A/B of the gateway.
Exemple, at the end of mechagon there is a popular gateway skip across the fence near the last boss, Gnomes and Mechagnomes need to Jump. before clicking the gateway otherwise they do not have Line of Sight to the endpoint B and the gateway won’t work.

There’s a part of me that wants to think, “no way, dude, it can’t work that way, you’re clearly trying to put one over on me”
but then again… it actually explains 99% of the issues I’ve had and maybe 100% of them. The raid team is pretty heavy on the horde side of things, and i think the one other gnome player in the raid also mentioned an issue with lock gates. I don’t think there any gobs in the raid. Back when websites could use the AH api to gather pop statistics I remember seeing that Gnomes and goblins are statistically the smallest percent of active characters (compared to other base or non-allied races).
The taller you are the better warlock gates work. Some of the skips required the use of a toy to make you taller and then it works. So I could see how just being a gnome could be interfering with things sometimes.
