I hope this doesn’t come across as overly salty. It feels like the only time we really get much communication is whether it aligns with marketing purposes. The Classic Anniversary servers, for example, are still an official version of the game yet gets no communication, even after massive issues of a patch launch.
But even when Dragonflight was first revealed, pretty much everything we learned about Dracthyr were “leaks”. When players started hearing rumors and asking questions or seeking clarification, we were met with silence.
Season of Discovery had the word “season” in its name, yet was still receiving new content well over a year later, leading many players to believe it was becoming a permanent fixture to the game. I don’t it’s fair to hold Blizzard accountable for players having incorrect hopes assumptions, but I think some frustrations could have been avoided with a bit more communication.
With MoP Classic, people are wondering if the cosmetic systems are ever going to link up between versions, and while I don’t necessarily care what the answer is, the fact is that players are looking for answers for how to spend their time, and a bit more open communication would go a long ways. I myself felt like I had “wasted” months of time and effort when it was announced SoD was ending, that I wouldn’t have gotten so invested. Similarly, playing Anniversary feels like a bit of a betrayal of trust when major issues occur but the community is met with dead silence.
Certain things are always going to be higher priority than others, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for players to have some idea about the game we’re playing and paying for.
Right, but the thing is that when players feel like our time is being wasted, and we’re intentionally being left in the dark, it breeds contempt, and only makes it that much more likely we’ll quit.
I mean hell, we just got news of Naxx hitting Anniversary and IN THE SAME BLOODY WEEK we’re getting Legion Remix. Two things that are individually very exciting, but because of the limited communication, it just leaves us all feeling like… what, we’re supposed to play the game “one week at a time”?
Again, it’s an MMO, they ask for a long-term time investment. It would be nice to get a little more communication than we do.
I’m not sure what you mean by this. Those are two different things in two different games, there’s not really much overlap between the two. If you want to do classic, there’s some stuff going on in classic, and if you want to do stuff in retail there’s stuff in retail, both of those announcements coming a few weeks ahead of the actual events.
I don’t think you can really call these “two different games”; they’re both World of Warcraft, just at different stages. They’re often treated all as separate products, but it just adds to the frustration of never being sure where to spend your time, because there is very clearly a “wrong” answer if you’re looking to get any long-term rewards out of it.
the live game is the future of wow (at least in blizzards eyes) so it will always be treated with more respect. I think you dont get a lot of communication on the future of various classic versions is because they really dont know themselves. Maybe when a true classic+ is put out it will be different. i think a lot of people thought SoD was going to be that, but obviously not.
Bingo, nail on the head. Except it goes deeper than this. They won’t even dev something unless they can market it. Really go back in the past and see what they kept and ditched and you’ll begin to see it.
They won’t even tell us if the crests are uncapping in this Turbo Boost. The grass ain’t greener over here, trust me. People have no idea what’s going on from a week to week basis and you constantly hear the same questions every single season:
Can I trade my valorstones? Why not? I can? I can’t now? Are crests capped, uncapped? It changes every single season.
