Lillybug what do you think about this

Ok thinking about getting

Silverstone Fara R1
Scythe Fuma 2
DEEP COOL 5 Pack RGB 120MM Fans 56CFM

Tech Jesus said the R1 with extra fans performs well.

It fits GPUs up to 322mm (reference 3080 is 285mm)
It fits cpu coolers up to 165mm (scythe fuma 2 is 155mm)
It fits 3x120mm up front, 2x120mm top, 1x120mm back
It’s only 390mm deep (this is a big deal for me)

Replace my Cryorig HE Quad Lumi and NZXT S340

This is a very nice cooler for the money. Just be aware, if you’re planning to replace the fans on it, the front fan is a slim (15mm thick) fan to help with ram clearance. It does come with a third fan mount for a regular (25mm thick) 120mm fan, tho.

thanks for the input - I am going to use the included fans as they look like they’re a pretty good setup, and RGB wise, the other fans should drown out any mismatched color from their grey scale.

I had a really hard time finding conservative looking cases that satisfy all my requirements. I like lights, but at the same time odd shapes really turn me off. So the Silverstone checks all the boxes, and it’s also pretty conservatively styled.

Indeed, the included fans work very well. Keeps my chip nice and cool. Just wanted throw out the info because of your interest in RGB.

As an aside, if you do want RGB for the cooler SCYTHE does make compatible fans. but then that shoots up the price quite a bit.

Tough to beat the price performance of the fuma 2. It’s an excellent cooler for the price and having used the scythe coolers before, the fans stay silent up until max RPM and then they start to whine. Rarely an issue but something to remember when setting your fan curve in BIOS.

I watched the GN video and the silver stone is a fine case. Tough to beat for that price but definitely a build it and leave it case. That’s a tight metal side panel and removing the front panel is a pain with the wires attached.

Personally, I like the phanteks 300A better. Or spend a little more for the meshify c, phanteks 400A, or the Corsair 275r airflow.

Funny you say this.

I ordered all of those cases mentioned (well, not the 400a) and canceled them all for various (trivial?) reasons.

The Phanteks cases I just don’t like the shape. Trivial, I know, but why is it sloped? Personal preference indeed! 300a fits my needs and size constraints, but the 400a is a tad too large.

Meshify C is the same problem. Weird shapes.

Corsair 275R Airflow - This was the closest contender. It’s a rectangle. I like rectangles. I just wasn’t able to find any actual data on how well the slots work. I know in a lot of cases, combining a mesh filter + a slotted case is enough restriction to make it almost useless in some implementations, and since I didn’t know for sure, I ended up canceling it. Also, what the heck kind of pattern is that anyway? So weird.

PLUS

I plan on being frost in SL. The Silverstone has a snowflake on it. ERGO, win

Didn’t GN review the 275r? Or was steve just doing a shampoo and conditioner commercial

he did the 275r standard, not the airflow. the standard is a flat plate like the s340

Toms did a pretty good review on it

Seems most of them think the stock config with just one fan sucks, and adding more helps a lot.

It’s not as good as some of the others, but like I said, I was willing to accept some concessions for my personal preferences.

Edit: I misunderstood. This is regarding the silverstone.

I saw the 275r review also and maybe I should have got that one, LOL. IDK. Plenty of time to cancel again

Be Quiet 500dx in white? It’s sharp looking and if I didn’t have an unopened Montech 900 case sitting in my basement for the past three months I would get one for my next build.

Cases are the one peace of hardware where looks rule (as long as it’s not an oven for your hardware). You are the one looking at it and you need to be happy with it. Get the case that makes you happy.
