Lil Donkey Mount

I’m very new to retail and only picked up classic this year. I’m trying to get the Lil Donkey mount from Overseer Krix in the Arathi Highlands but every guide I follow shows an area that I cannot see at all. I tried using the time traveler person near Undercity thinking it was something in the past, but I still can’t see it.
The guide I’m reading says the mount was added in BFA- does this mean I can’t get it any longer because I’m playing War Within? Is there any way I can get it besides buying it from the auction house? I feel so stupid.

Welcome to Azeroth!

You are not stupid! This is all the devs’ fault. They are … careless, reckless … about confusing players, especially new players, about phasing and mob and quest availability. Confuses me too, often enough. They make two of things you’re looking for, put them in different places, make them different for Alliance and Horde, all that stuff. Then they can be different levels, depending on your level, depending on Chromie Time … URRRRGGGGHHHH!

This is a beaut of a case like that!

As we always do, we start by checking with Wowhead for Lil’ Donkey

We see that it drops from Overseer Krix

and has a 7% drop rate - so on average every 14 ot 15 kills, you will get one. You could be lucky and get it on the first kill, or kill him 100 times and still get nothing,

OK, so where is Overseer Krix? On the map, he is in two places. The reason is that Alliance see him in one place, and Horde see him in a different place. Either way, he is in a mine, near the bottom of the stairs down, and Horde see him in the more southern of the two mines marked on that map.

But that map isn’t “there” all the time. There is a pre-BfA version (“phase”) of Arathi Highlands and a post-BfA phase. If you are high enough level, which you should be at 51, you may be able to talk to the time-dragon Zidormi in Arathi to phase into the BfA version.

The time traveler dragon Zidiormi you want for Arathi Highlands is at the south of Arathi at the middle of the south border near an inlet just beside the great bridge Thandol Span. You will see a speech bubble on your map if you are high level enough.

I’m not sure that you will see Zidormi there at 51, but I think you will. If not, you definitely should at 55.

Overseer Krix is absolutely a Level 52 Elite, That is how you will see him if outside Chromie Time. I’m not sure how he will appear to someone in Chromie time. He will be a very tough kill for a level 51. And there are other hostiles around him.

Also, Overseer Krix is a Rare, which means he’s not there all the time. When someone kills him, he takes a long time to show up again. How long does he take to respawn? I don’t know. Half-hour? Hour? Day? Maybe.

[P.S. I just checked. I believe Overseer Krix has a respawn time of about 20-30 minutes, but drops loot only once a day. That’s pretty common for rares. So you can set up camp in the mine and kill him ten times a day, but only the first time you kill him in a given day does he have a chance to drop the Lil Donkey.]

If you go to YouTube and search for Lil’ Donkey Mount you will see lots of short videos. YouTube is a great resource for WoW, though be aware that
a) They may not explain everything
b) Sometimes the game may have changed since the video

When a Rare or a mount or an item is “added in” an expansion, that nearly always means it’s still there. The devs do remove some things from the game, sometimes, but very few and very rarely.

Lil’ Donkey is still in the game.

.

The Lil’ Donkey item “Binds when picked up”, which means it is Soulbound when you get it. That means you can’t buy or sell it on the Auction House. You can only get it by killing Overseer Krix yourself.

There is a HUGE number of mounts of all types available in the game, This is a guide to the guides:

There are plenty of horse-type mounts, though I do caution that as a huge Tauren you may look as though you are crushing the poor small animal you are riding.
