Where is it? Spell is like not even a tickle outside a crit. A non crit does 1 43rd of my ele sham’s health in damage. Feels very terrible using this spell.
It’s supposed to be a “filler” spell in-between lava surges and earth shocks. Unfortunately the bulk of your damage comes from those procs.
Fortunately though maelstrom is leaving and Mana for ele shamans is returning.
Honestly I’ve been catching myself filling with Frost Shock, only because it lets me cast on the move and at least it slows them down; Lightning Bolt doesn’t do anything outside of piddly damage.
Not only that, frost shock can crit and can dish out more damage than a lightning bolt.
Not only that! …but it doesn’t generate any maelstrom and can’t overload so that’s a terrible strategy.
Actually frost shock can generate maelstrom with a certain talent.
When you use Icefury, yeah. That’s not just using it as a filler though. And you would use it then regardless due to the buffed damage when you use Icefury.
That doesn’t make it a good filler replacement for Lightning Bolt though.
Idk sometimes I sim better with it.
The fact that it can be cast on the move and has no cast time or CD makes it much more convenient though, especially when out in the world. Not really gonna worry about Maelstrom when I know I’m gonna instantly get 500 next time Lava Burst procs 30 times.
Well, to each their own, I suppose.
Fortunately maelstrom is taking a hike and shamans don’t need to rely on building up anymore.
Frost shock is higher priority than LB when you have the Icefury buff, but it’s only once every 30 seconds. LB can actually pack a huge punch if you run MoTE with Stormkeeper, but that requires setup.
My biggest problem with LB though is that it has looked stupid ever since they updated the animation. A glyph would to return it to its former glory would be great.
Still gonna have stacks of something that rely on LB… forgot what it’s called to use a beefy earth shock in SL
Fulmination is returning. It’s an old design from the Cata/MoP days of building stacks to dump via earth shock.
For a couple xpacs now, everybody’s former “primary nuke” spell got nerfed to near uselessness. Fireball and Frostbolt got the same treatment – their original forms would take a notable chunk of HP out of stuff, but now they both tickle.
Some may argue that this makes for a more engaging design, but I don’t like it because of how dependent on procs it makes specs to do damage. No question that performing well should involve more than spamming your Lightning Bolt/Fireball/Frostbolt/Shadowbolt/Wrath key forever, but it’s not fun to have limp noodle damage when the RNGods decide they want to laugh at you.
Sadly for elemental they put all the bang into lava and earth spells.
Though when I think of Shaman I think of lightning and storms.
Just started playing my shammy again. I hadn’t touched him since Cata and yea… I was thinking that he feels kinda piddly.
I call it static cling. I imaginge im dragging my paws on ground and instead of shooting lightning, its just bad static.
I just did a BG on my ele sham and honestly didn’t even see anyone’s health bar move while spamming LB on them. There’s filler and then there’s useless.
