Lighting Rush > Whirling Surge

Anyone picking surge don’t understand nor realize how Lighting rush works. It’s the superior choice in flying. It’s free, gives you a much better boost than whirling surge.

If you’re flying long distance, why waste 3 vigor when you can use surge, fly fast for 5 seconds and still have vigor recharging 2-3 orbs by the the time it’s over?

How people hate this is crazy. Lighting Rush was necessary for the special dragon riding quests in dragonflight for anyone with the storm rider mount.

I don’t think it allows you to turbo boost as soon as you take off, which is why I use surge.

ya, Rush is super good. Rush is also the best way to restore vigor if you run dry. Fly around a cliff for a few seconds then shoot straight up.

Fly next to a wall/mountain/hill, build 10 stacks, when its ready, take off

While you’re taking off literally 2-3 orbs are recharged from you using space bar and that little dash 1 vigor ability

This is a player that have a big brain. Utilizes the environment for their advantage.

If I am using skyriding, I don’t use either of those abilities to be honest. There is nowhere in the game where I have to be there that fast. But I would never use Lightning Rush because it inhibits turning.

Just point to the location desired, ascend, and glide to my destination. Maybe use a surge forward once in a while.

Its not necessarily about HAVING to be there that fast, its about it being FUN to go fast.

Or, we prefer using surge.

But the op originally started their post by saying one was substantially better in a competitive way. Now you’re saying it’s superior in fun as well. I mean, I can buy that you think it’s fun to be minmaxing your flight. But it just doesn’t jibe with the original poster’s argument about effectiveness (sorry, forgot it wasn’t you who started this.)

Each to their own. I don’t find striding particularly fun… it is a means to an end at times.

I mean… the REASON that rush being good matters is because its fun to go fast in games.

If that’s your priority so be it. I think it’s more fun to have cool animations like doing a barrel roll. Neither of us are wrong. But yea, the original poster’s point can still stand, I have no opinion on whether it’s objectively faster, I’ll have to try it.

They have the same animation.

For all intents and purposes… the only difference is “I spend 3 vigor to get this burst of speed on demand” vs “I build stacks to get a burst of speed for no vigor”

I guess there’s also the slight animation and sound effect of the rush stacks building up over time, which might annoy some people.

Fair enough. I’m just saying I could pick any other arbitrary aspect of it and say it’s more fun for me because of that aspect. It’s not wrong, just preference, and shouldn’t really be used to determine the truth about whether it’s objectively better (as op contended.)

Foolishness.
Dragonflicking trumps all.

Oh god. now there’s an objectively unfun tactic. :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

I bet you’re fun to end up behind at the checkout counter. Do you start filling out your checks before they’re done scanning? I ask because you seem like a waiter. Why rush, right? And yes, I said checks because only an 80 year old enjoys taking an hour to get from point A to point B. xD

Surge is instant top speed at any time, on demand. It costs 3, yes but you basically get one of those back instantly anyway.

Because I can use that 3 vigor immediately after take off, and I don’t need to worry about building a charge, ever.

I almost never use Whirling Surge and only just barely tried Lightning Rush. I’m also actually considering changing to Lightning Rush. If I really never use it either, it will probably make very little to no difference in my gameplay, heh.

Yup its leagues better and really easy to charge in TWW. The only time i found the whirling surge to be better was tindral. Maybe dawnbreaker too now that i think about it.
