Light vs Void

This doesnt seem good vs evil.

Hallowfall is fine when it is dark.

The power struggle, why don’t embrace both?

Shadow monsters literally appear out of thin air, attack everyone and break things when Beledar goes dark. The Kobyss (fish people) prefer to attack when it’s dark.

Hallowfall is not fine when it’s dark.

Aa mentioned, Hallowfall gets very dangerous when it shifts to dark. They have to literally hide indoors during it.

Truly spoken from somebody who clearly has not been in Hallowfall at nighttime.

I mean yeah, Hallowfall gets pretty bad and all…

But like, the Void blew up the ethereals’ entire planet.

If we’re trying to decide if the void is evil or not, I think planetcide should be the go-to proof.

AAUUYYYKKKKSHUALLY Void and Arcane blew up K’a’r’es’h’,‘,’

The floating foot fetish has been actively slurping up those two forces btw. Just saying.

But… those night attackers may have their own motive, like the break away arathi.

The Order of Night, that Break away Arathi group you mention, went quite mad after giving into despair and decided to go full apocalypse cult even if it meant all the people they know dying. Not a good look.

The only group so far which does give any shade of heroism to the void be the Ren’dorei.

But only one of them tried!!

We know that Dimensius was involved and that K’aresh was blown up by Arcane and Void Energies destroying it…

We also know that K’aresh had the Radiant Song which was seen being emanated by Beledar.

Siren Isle has a similar Crystal to Beledar that might infact be Beledar that the Naga describe as being Stormcursed and having forsaken the gifts the Naga or Void have given her with the Circlet being the means to bring about the return of the Naga’s Queen.

Who wants to theorize that the Circlet they are after is Tempest Caller the Crown Xal’atath gave N’Zoth that we did not Loot from Uu’nat?

Who also wants to further theorize that the Tempest Caller is responsible for the tearing sounds the Arathi hear and that Beledar’s inhabitant ditched it for some reason?

No. It is the ring literally called Circe’s Circlet that is attuned to Hymosul.

I am not honestly sure they will angle arcane having much to do with the fall off K’aresh when it comes up again in game. Arcane energy being in the Nether is a weird thing in the modern cosmology of tidy cosmic realms. As is Demensius coming from there, in modern lore he would of come from the Void and opened normal Void Rifts. That was rooted largely in old BC era lore, back when Void, Death, and Arcane were basically just different faces of the same thing—Warhammer’s Plane of Chaos with its serial numbers filed off.

They can’t ignore it without retconning Ethereals. The whole reason they’re arcane infused souls is because the barriers they put up to block the void didn’t block the arcane that also flooded K’aresh.

Naaru ships also cease to function if there’s no arcane in the nether and the whole Netherstorm zone makes little sense as well.

Yes, that is true. In a lot of ways the Shadowlands-Danuser cosmology they introduced directly conflicts with the design of what came before.

Why do you have such a hard time accepting that the Void sucks? Even the Void Elves say you should never cooperate with it.

The Alliance got the best of both worlds.

Light?

  • Lightforged Draenei.

Void?

  • Void Elves.

The Horde can’t hold a candle, let alone a match compared to them :joy:
They’re nothing more than pathetic washout has-been trash in comparison.

I’d say the Horde are dead in the cosmic relevance department — but that’d be an understatement, the remains of their bones have been used to make an ivory toilet for the Alliance, lol

The Void is best thought of in terms of fantastical nuclear radiation. It is not so much that it is evil or anything. It’s fundamental nature is just such that it is not healthy for anyone or anything in the Great Dark to be exposed to it in high concentrations—The same can be argued for all six of the outer cosmic forces. Most fear it because of what it can do to people’s minds and bodies, but in the hands of an expert it can sometimes be harnessed for a good end. More often than not even the best intentions eventually go wrong, however.

A recurring theme of WoW is balance, it’s when the scales go off kilter that things go pear shaped.

The bad humans in the Arathi zone preached “balance”. So that would suggest balance is not a good thing. Getting rid of void/evil/death would be ideal. But I also don’t think anybody writing this stuff particularly cares, and they just put in general fantasy boilerplate that sounds good to their ears, which can change on a dime when it suits them.

I think that is the route Danuser-WoW wants to go, but … Show, Don’t Tell. If practically every interaction with Void or Fel is one of existential crises, it is a bit silly to also imply they are benign.

I can get that, and show not tell has always been a thing they have struggled with. I think it is one of those it isn’t benign or malign. It mostly sees us as insignificant and its effects incidental to its billion year war against its counterparts. All of the Big Six are the same. It is hard to communicate this effectively and not demotivate a player to care, now that I consider it. It is essentially a form of cosmic horror.

Light corrupted worlds seem to be just as horrific as Void corrupted ones. It is just crystals and perfect stasis instead of tentacles and churning madness. The Titans have imprisoned the world soul and built what amounts to a planet sized conversion machine to force her to be one of them. The keepers are actively hiding this fact, and that she has kept trying to break free of it. And they are doing so out of a compulsive desire to bring perfect order to the cosmos.

They are all kinda… horrific in their own special way.
