I’d gladly pay 500+ for a lifetime subscription that included all future xpacs

If only. I remember when LotRo released with a limited time $100 lifetime sub. I only played the game for a couple of years. But it was well worth the money being able to leave and come back any time I got the itch, even if it was only for a week or two to check out new content.

Define “lifetime.”

As long as YOU live? You have no guarantee that you’ll get a tomorrow. You’d be paying $500+ for one day’s subscription.

As long as the game is around? You might wind up forking over $500+ for 2 more years’ subscription.

As long as Blizzard is around? The way companies are bought and sold these days, you could be out $500+ for maybe 3 - 6 years of access.

Now if they had offered a lifetime sub for $500+ back in 2004, you would have already gotten your money’s worth and be playing (essentially) for free now.
