Lifelong PVE player considering going PVP realm

I’ve dipped my toe into PvP realms before (post bc) and found the experience to be frustrating… But when I read posts by PVPers, it makes my blood stir… And the fact that this is Classic is calling to me.

So here I am, a possible convert to the ways of the PVP gods… Help me be convinced. A little advice would also be quite welcome as I am as green as one can be when it comes to the land of the permaflagged.

I await your comments.
:: edit::

You all helped me decide. I’m stepping into the fire once the servers calm down. I just need to decide where, who and what to roll.

Thanks

If you’re rolling a pvp server, you need to constantly be aware of your surroundings. While you’re attacking something, focus less on your fight, and more on scanning the area around you for Red names. If you’re questing in an area with an opposite faction player nearby, if they don’t attack you immediately be ready with a plan to fight them off. Having your combat log set to “everything” and pulled out above your chat log helps a lot with this, as you can click on names to see whether they’re horde or alliance.

Its kind of daunting if you’re a bit lower level than the majority, but being that person who keeps winning the 1v1 as you level is an experience that i’ve yet to top through playing wow.

You have much more “end game” content on PvP servers.

You post on a Rogue.

Does more need to be said? Join the dark side. PvP!

PvP is for players who like a challenge

Stay PVE, I can promise you the gankers are returning from their slumber. Pre BG they were ferocious in their determination to make your play a living hell.

You can always opt to dungeon level through the tough times, once 60 you won’t have to deal with bottom feeders.

World bosses aren’t about who gets there first. Its about a war to get the kill. Its an amazing experience I recommend.

People who think pvp servers are just gankfest are people who haven’t played on pvp servers. The world pvp, the feeling of being apart of an actual faction, its amazing.

This isn’t retail where you get instant teleported inside dungeons.

You aren’t soloing your way to the dungeon either, retail player.

Be ready to deal with frustration. I prefer PvP personally ever since Vanilla but there are times when you just want to get something done and someone on the other faction really wants to mess up your day. It’s part of the experience so just be ready for that. But it’s definitely something you should experience to get the full scope of gameplay in Classic

You can always try it and if you hate it, switch to PvE. Its better to do that than the other way around because once people are 60 it will be a gank-fest.

That being said, I played PvP servers back in Vanilla and TBC. Then I finally had enough and switched to a PvE server and have never looked back. I realized long ago that I don’t like open world pvp, I will never initiate open world conflict because I don’t feel the need to, and the things I enjoy are all the PvE aspects of the game. That’s just me though.

Do it. Expect to be frustrated, to be stomped on and teabagged and laughed at. Then savor the thrill that comes from being the hammer instead of the nail. If pvp didn’t frustrate, challenge and infuriate us, it wouldnt be nearly as fun.

i cant for the life of me even begin to understand why in the world anyone would ever roll Classic wow on a pve server… Why are you even bothering to play if your not going to play the game the way it was mean to be played, World of Warcraft… You will have to fight for your life and be ganked etc… but its all part of the fun on being in World of Warcraft…

It can be annoying when school gets out and some level 60 in greens kills and tries to camp you. It happens sometimes. When it does, have some compassion for them.

The benefit side is the world raids. Engaging in those large scale battles in Duskwood, etc are amazing. And it’s also fun when you’re in end-game areas, fighting people your own level. You grow into a better player than you would in retail.

It’s not constant fighting 24/7 when you’re logged on, it’s about being aware that you can get into a fight at any time. It’s entirely possible to encounter 200 people of the opposing faction in a row and have friendly encounters with every one.

Or you can be the person that encounters 200 people and initiates the combat every time.

You might be better at home on an RP-PVP server. There is one,

Absolutely do it.

IN phase 2 you will experience a side of the game you have never experienced before. It will seriously make the world more immersive and create a faction identity you never thought possible. Two things hooked me into this game: 1) My first deadmines run. And 2) Happily enjoying the game, arriving in astranaar on my night elf priest running quests and seeing a wall of horde charging in…
It led to a revenge attack on the barrens where alliance (having no idea about barrens) decided to go through the ashenvale gate instead of through the MASSIVE hole on its left and spending its time wiping to guards and hordies. I still remember it to this day. It was lunatic and beautiful.

…and once battlemasters hit the game, its gone forever. Its like a beautiful butterfly. Ephemeral, fleeting, wonderful and transient. You wont want to miss it.

Because that’s what we like. It’s not what you like. That’s fine. We like different things.
