Today is a rather historic day for space travel.

12 SEP 1962 was JFK’s “Moon Speech” at Houston’s Rice University

Four years later, Gemini 11 launched 12 SEP 1966, and - other than Apollo 8, 10-17 (9 was LEO) - it holds the record as the furthest a human’s been from Earth. Gemini 11’s apogee was something like 800 miles. ISS by comparison is something like 250 miles.

12 SEP 1992 was the launch of STS-47, the 50th mission for the space shuttle. It was Endeavour, the newest one of the fleet.

Interestingly - to me - 1962 and 1992 are ‘closer’ in time than 1992 to 2025.
