I mean it’s better than how non lgbt handled us. We’re just having fun at pride. Non lgbt meanwhile slaughtered us for many many many years in history
Wait so you were killed in a holocaust manner in America for years? had to switch toons, blizzard and all
Lgbt used to be arrested just for being gay
Non lgbt tried to push the narrative that gay men and child predators were the same thing
After more abuse it took Stonewall to get the attention of non lgbt.
Hell I was almost killed at a pride event just for having a trans pin on me. A guy just grabbed my throat and squeezed. I’m small. I couldn’t fight back and it took strangers to get them off me.
Every pride event I’ve ever heard of has been very inclusive of straight allies. We love it when people support us.
I understand where you are coming from, but the historical context of LGBT pride is about overcoming adversity and being proud of who you are.
So while there is nothing wrong with a straight pride celebration per se, in the context of LGBT pride existing, it becomes problematic because it is invariably compared with the LGBT version, and causes people to ask "But what adversity have you overcome?’, which was the question I posed earlier.
Does that make sense? I’m having trouble articulating my thoughts here.
but you said…which is NOT even close being true! The American Indians suffered mass killings and holocaust killings in order to make this country. Which the Indian wars ended early in the 1900’s with a rough tally of 15 million Indians. It was so bad that the Indians of this country came to as little a few hundred thousand.
What if you are a straight American Indian??
Well in that case, is there a native american pride day? That would be better suited I think. In Australia for example we have reconciliation week, which is all about reconciling with our first nation peoples.
We’re talking hate crimes based on sexuality. Not race. That’s a whole different conversation.
We also massacred our aborginal people too. These are absolutely atrocities that need to be considered and there is a lot of reconciliation still to be done. However both LGBT and first nation causes can co-exist, and even inform and support each other. There are many great examples of this already happening which gives me hope for our future.
Then why dont you folks have a national pride month then? instead of every month a parade, I mean if we are going to be fair then let fair happen. Keep in mind I live in SoCal.,
I have to agree hate is hate…and needs to stop!
a crime vs genocide are WAY far apart, not even close, there were no mass genocidal acts in America against gays.
There is. June is pride month.
Nope, in cali there are monthly pride events/parades.
They are different yes, but have a similar result.
I can’t speak for America, but the main genocide of LGBT people occured during the holocaust, where they were rounded up with Jews and sent to the concentration camps.
As you said, hate is hate and there’s not much benefit in comparing in my view, as all of it is abhorrent.
In that case, is there anything stopping you from advocating for monthly first nation events? I think the more awareness the better.
ROFL…we have tried and have been refused…many…many times
So? Almost anyone can organise marches or parades.
Pride month is June because it commemorates the Stonewall riots.
equal attention cake.
Not if they get turned down to organize and have permits. its clearly one sided.
